Leatherclad Delinquent Girl Detective

Toei wil release a new Sukeban Deka film later this year with Aya Matsuura playing the lead. There has been much speculation about what she'll be wearing and now the first pictures of her "combat suit" have been made public. The big news is that she won't be fighting in a sailor suit although the leather get-up has some nods to the character's usual oufit which has been appearing on the posters and the official film site. She still has the yo-yo/police badge from the earlier films which was a big influence on Quentin Tarantino's choice of weaponry for Go-Go Yubari in Kill Bill. Well, the whole character was a big influence. The English language title for the film will be Yo-Yo Girl Cop.

I believe that thigh mounted yo yo holster is a new addition as well...along with a much shorter skirt than previous Sukeban Dekas....I wouldn't be surprised if the "combat suit" was choosen because a short skirted actress might prove distracting during action scenes. Or it could be nod towards the henshin audience.

I haven't particularly noticed Aya Matsuura one way or the other but I think that film poster is a good piece of marketing. Here's a closer look:

It was nice of them to post a hi rez image on the site and I agree it's a striking image....Seems to be making a point of "this isn't your mother's Sukeban Deka". But questions abound....Is Sukeban Deka going to clean up Shibuya the hard way? Is an evil gang of Ganguro set to destroy Shibuya and Sukeban Deka is going to stop them? I would normally expect to see a certain turtle with a backdrop like that

I recall that series where she would unleash that baby with a slight flick of the wrist and KO all the bad guys. Always for some reason, reminded me of that old Chinese classic "She ain't got no yo-yo"!

Be warned, though, that the film was a bit of a flop in Japan, buoyed only by Aya Matsuura fans. If you want to spoil your appetite, here's the catfight scene. YouTube will probably be asked to take it down at some point.
