400,000yen a month (after taxes) to live comfortably in a Japanese city.

For a single dude that's very fucking comfortable!

Depends on how one wants to live. City life gets expensive quickly, especially if you add a car to the mix. Add a family too and 400,000/month does not go far at all.
And you run and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking
Racing around to come up behind you again

Shorter of breath and one day closer to death

Add a family and you're not a single dude. Cars can be a killer. I had one in Japan. It never gave me much problem but the shaken was painful.

Really? ]Cars can be a killer. I had one in Japan. It never gave me much problem but the shaken was painful.[/QUOTE]
Shaken, insurance, road tax...and in Osaka 20,000 to 40,000/month for parking. Then gas and tolls if you want to go somewhere. It's all worth it though, life with a car is infinitely better than life without a car.

Hey - whatever "floats your boat".

But let the exhaust/tailpipe cool-down first before you start that kuruma lovin', otherwise you'll burn yourself.

And stay away from my car.
