Japanese researchers have developed a biomass fermentation system that uses seaweed dredged from the shore to produce fuel for generating electricity. Seaweed is one of the few untapped sources of biomass energy that is easily obtainable in Japan, and the plan calls for the research stage to be wrapped up no later than March 2007, with full-fledged electricity generation to begin later in the year. I wonder if they can use this technology to make use of the algae that forms over dead areas of water caused by chemical runoff (ex. off the coast of California and in the Gulf of Mexico)?

I bet this will be another failed attempt for a "safe reliable and renewable energy" just like that wacked on crack idea someone came up for the free perpetual electricity from people going through the train ticket gate.

These people can develop this kind of stuff with free wasteful government subsidies and grant money.
