Six Sentenced Over Japan's Worst Nuclear Accident
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/nm/20030303/wl_nm/nuclear_japan_dc_1
The local District Court at Mito in Ibaraki Prefecture imposed a fine of one million yen ($8,461) on plant operator JCO Co 8O

The former head of the plant, Kenzo Koshijima, 56, received a five-year prison term suspended for three years and was fined 500,000 yen 8O 8O

The other five executives were given suspended prison terms of up to three years. 8O 8O 8O

Unfuckingbelievable.. Oh, wait. It's believable. It's Japan..

Translation: JCO fails to train workers properly, kills 2 workers, exposes 650 residents to nuclear radiation,.. but party on, dudes!!

Timelines of events of Japan's worst nuclear accident:
http://www.isis-online.org/publications/tokai.html

Anyone remember Obuchi travelling up to Ibaraki to eat some tomatoes to prove the produce was safe.. He died!! 8O Probably not related, but ironic.

However bad this Japan incident may have been it truly pales into total OBLIVION when compared to the nightmare that was and *still* is Chernobyl.

The operators there did not have a clue what they were doing. They were *literally* making it up as they went along.

This was akin to giving a three year old a lit match, a bucket of gasoline and saying 'go play'

nb - Literally = unbelivable as it may sound they were doing experiments to find out 'what happens if we do this"

Truly freightening. Just imagine what's happening RIGHT NOW!

Uranium spill at Japan fuel plant, no injury
2008-08-08 15:46:05 -
TOKYO (AP) -
A small amount of liquid containing uranium splashed out of a container at a Japanese nuclear fuel plant near Tokyo, slightly exposing two people to radiation, the plant operator said Friday.
The amount of radiation in the spill was «extremely low» and there was no health threat to the workers, Global Nuclear...
<snip>
...
Friday's accident was the second in recent weeks at the plant. Another worker was slightly exposed to radiation in July when a small quantity of uranium powder escaped from a machine. There was no injury or damage.
The company, a joint venture among General Electric Co., Toshiba Corp. and Hitachi Ltd., produces uranium pellets for Japanese nuclear power plants.

Hey at least in Japan there is the appearence of punishment. If this happened in the states the Co. would have been given a tax credit and probably the President's medal of Freedumb.

Oh yes, it can always be worse.
Spare a drink?
