Japan plans two more rocket failures for 2006-7

An AP story from MSM on the next two splashes!

Japan to launch two more spy satellites by March 2007

Japan is planning to send two more spy satellites into orbit by March 2007 to monitor North Korea, a media report said Friday.
Kyodo News agency reported that Japan plans to send up two spy satellites during fiscal 2006 ending in March 2007, citing unnamed government sources.
Noriaki Saito, an official of Japan's space agency JAXA, could not confirm the report.
Japan launched two spy satellites in March 2003, but an attempt to send two more in November that year failed because of a defect in the rocket's booster system.
Kyodo said that Japan earlier planned to put two additional satellites in orbit during fiscal 2005 but postponed the launches to the next fiscal year after finding defects in the satellites.
The Japanese government is setting aside about 61 billion yen for the launch and operation of spy satellites for fiscal 2006, the agency reported.
Japan is currently developing a next-generation spy satellite with a higher image-resolution capacity than the existing one, to be launched in fiscal 2009, according to Kyodo.
Tokyo put its first two spy satellites into space in March 2003 as part of a US$2-billion project to watch North Korea's missile and nuclear programs. The move prompted protests from North Korea, which warned Tokyo against triggering a regional arms race.
Japanese officials say the program was prompted by North Korea's surprise test launch of a long-range missile over Japan's main island in 1998. The satellites are not meant as a provocation and would also be used for other missions such as monitoring natural disasters and weather patterns, they say. (AP)

another trillion blown away in an expensive firework

the Japanese H2 ( from JAXA / NASDA ) has been a heap of shit, I'm only shocked they've all smashed into the Pacific and none did a U-turn to come crashing down on a major city like Osaka/Tokyo
Image
Shuttle is also fucked, Noguchi who went on that last NASA journey and considered going home on a Russian craft when he spotted the foam breaking off the Shuttle again.

However there are still some good rockets and space craft out there,
United States : Delta rockets, the private sector like Rutan is growing, JPL's Mars Rovers are cool, Atlas launchers are reliable
Euro: Ariane pad, Smart-1 mission, the Vega rocket
Ruskie : Proton, Soyuz for tourism, Kosmos,
and they are building a new space shuttle craft
China : CZ2C rocket, Shenzhou missions, long-march launchers...

if Japan wants to save some cash it could pay somebody else to launch their sats

More like, if they just want to get them into orbit.

Maybe they can detonate them over Dear Leader's bedroom suite so he and what ever hooker is there at the time, can have a good, close view! Five feet away comes to mind as a good, close view.

some good news for Japan's space plans - at last !

AKARI, the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) infrared astronomical satellite with ESA participation, is continuing its survey of the sky and its mapping of our cosmos in infrared light. New exciting images recently taken by AKARI depict scenes from the birth and death of stars.
http://www.spacedaily.com/reports/AKARI_View_On_Birth_And_Death_Of_Stars_999.html
AKARI's Infrared Camera (IRC) imaged the reflection nebula IC 1396 in the constellation Cepheus (a reflection nebula is a cloud of dust which reflects the light of nearby stars). IC 1396 is a bright star-forming region located about 3000 light years from our Solar System, in a region where very massive stars - several tens of times as massive as our Sun - are presently being born.

Japan will reportedly consider legislation that will allow for the eventual deployment of more advanced military spy satellites.
http://www.upi.com/SecurityTerrorism/view.php?StoryID=20060917-122156-2696r
A bill drafted by the Liberal Democratic Party would allow Japan to use space for "defense purposes," which in this day and age would include monitoring the nuclear program of nearby North Korea with better imaging technology.

NASA may buy Japanese spaceship

July 20, 2008 / 6:54 am
TOKYO (AP) -
NASA needs a replacement for the space shuttle and it's reportedly turning to Japan to help keep supplies flowing to the international space station.
Japan's largest daily newspaper reports NASA is in unofficial talks with Japan's space agency to purchase the H-2 Transfer Vehicle, or HTV.
The HTV is an unmanned cargo vessel being designed to deliver supplies to the space station. The orbiting facility is currently kept stocked by the space shuttle as well as Russian and European spacecraft.....

India overtakes Japan in space race

Postby Mike Oxlong » Wed Oct 22, 2008 1:19 pm

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/7679818.stm

An Indian-built launcher carrying the one-and-a-half-tonne satellite blasted off from Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota at about 0620 local time (0050 GMT).

One key objective will be to search for surface or sub-surface water-ice on the Moon, especially at the poles.

Another will be to detect Helium 3, an isotope which is rare on Earth, but is sought to power nuclear fusion and could be a valuable source of energy in future.

Powered by a single solar panel generating about 700 Watts, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) probe carries five Indian-built instruments and six that are foreign-built.

The mission is expected to cost 3.8bn rupees (£45m; $78m).
The Indian experiments include a 30kg probe that will be released from the mothership to slam into the lunar surface.

The Moon Impact Probe (MIP) will record video footage on the way down and measure the composition of the Moon's tenuous atmosphere.

You can see a vid of the launch on the BBC homepage.
