Another woeful tale of animal abuse.
A rescue is now underway of 550 dogs that a yet undisclosed breeder has been slowly starving to death.　The majority of the surviving animals are extremely emaciated and suffering from dehydration as well as other conditions. One adult Golden Retriever rescued weighed only eight kilograms.
According to a blog by Ark Angels the dogs had likely only been fed about once a week, keeping them in a condition whereas they could be easily killed off as necessary. This news is presently being kept quiet until the rescue is over. ( so I suppose I can call it a scoop!)

Japan needs to crack down on shit like this. I have a "gomi-dog" that I rescued from the streets and she was a mutt. To do this kind of shit you have to have a heart of stone.

Yomiuri: Sit-in protest staged over sick dogs plan

About 200 residents of Takashima, Shiga Prefecture, staged an eight-hour sit-in Saturday to protest an attempt by an Osaka-based animal protection organization to bring 40 dogs suffering from skin diseases to a facility in the city. Ark Angels had ultimately planned to house about 60 dogs with skin diseases at the facility. However, the residents opposed the plan on the grounds that it would harm the environment, and set up an barricade to prevent Ark Angels' two vehicles from entering the facility. Takashima Mayor Hidekazu Kaito joined the protest, and the confrontation between the two parties went on for about eight hours under the eyes of about 40 police officers. Eventually, the Ark Angels vehicles returned to the organization's facilities in Osaka. Ark Angels and local residents had held two meetings to discuss the project since late September, but failed to reach agreement over residents' concerns about nuisance caused by noise and smell.
