Melon Pan

Postby 6810 » Fri Oct 13, 2006 8:37 am

Ok, so, Melon Pan... what's the story.

Or rather, what's the history, anyone know.

I get the fact that it looks like a melon. It also seems to be a unique Japanese sweetbread. But... where did it come from? When? Who made the first one?

This has got me all twisted up!

Help!

For what it's worth the Japanese Wikipedia says the name came either because it looks like a melon, tasted of melon or else was derived from "meringue bread". The entry claims it first appeared in the latter half of the Meiji Era.
