I just went through this trying to get cheap tickets for my son form the US to Japan and return. It is tough in Japan. The UK had a bunch of great cheap offers on line, but I could not use them without a UK credit card and the US wasn't much better! It was almost as bad as dealing with Japanese travel agencies!

It is almost impossible to get those good deals without a credit card from the country the company is selling from. My friend got some flights to NZ via Hong Kong but had to pay 110,000yen return plus domestic flights within NZ - not very cheap. They had some great STA deals in NZ but since she wasnt a student in NZ she couldnt get them and the Japanese STA didnt have the same deals.

I was trying to buy a graphics card from OCUK and they wouldnt put through the transaction because my Irish cr-card dosent have some stoopid feature that they require and that feature is only available on some of the new UK cr-cards.
First time Ive ever had a problem with my card, but they were completely uninterested.
I guess theyve been stung a few times by fraud.
Its a shame: theyre usually a fair bit cheaper than most on computer components.

On my travel study, we changed-over at Dallas-Fortworth. I just did some searching, and to my immediate surprise, Philly was the cheapest at around 1,000-1,000 WITHOUT any changeovers!

I was always told Detroit was the cheapest place to fly out of...

Anyone?

I have a question about airfare though. Since I'd be coming over for school, and have no desire to come home for any holidays or anything, could I trade in my 2nd half of the round trip towards a future flight or anything like that? I mean, I plan on spending my remaining 2 years of undergrad over there and maybe come home once, if that. I just don't have much to come home to, and want to live the experience to the fullest...

No, you will not be able to trade your ticket in. But you will find that the round trip tickets are cheaper than the one way tickets. So just get the round trip ticket.

Over the years I've gotten more than few flights on Continential out of Newark (EWR) to Narita (NRT) in the $750-$850 (final price with tax) range. You might want to keep your eye on United flying out of Dulles (IAD)...they've just started up a daily non-stop to Narita, while previously they only flew a few times a week (and code shared with ANA on their off days)....I don't know if ANA is cutting back on their daily non-stop, but I don't know if there is enough demand in the DC area for two daily non-stop flights to Narita, so United might do some deals to fill seats in the short term.
