Konbanwa.

How's everyone doing tonight?

I'm Jeff... living in "Ill"adelphia, PA U.S.A. I'm a poor college kid taking a semester off to save up my airfare to Japan in March in the event that my transfer to Sophia goes through...

I'm 20, majoring in journalism with minors in international relations and Japanese. Went all over Japan in May through school - Kyoto, Kobe, Hiroshima, Miyajima Island, Shodoshima Island (Resort Olivean - fuckin' amazing onsen overlooking the ocean), and of course, Tokyo. We stayed in Azabu Juban right outside of Roppongi, so I was in a stupor for the 4 days there... Made out with a lot of Japanese/Swedish/Brazilian girls... Can't do that in Philly...

Found the site by chance... but after fishing around the threads, I think I'm going to enjoy my stay here and have a lot of good "priming" before the big move.

I wrote a pretty detailed profile (I hate blank profiles on forums...) so if you want to know anything else... check that out.

And PS: If all else fails, I hope to find some snowboarding companions. Heard the pickings were good over there.

Take it easy,
-Jeff

KanpaiQuigley from your profile I'd say you have great taste. Man, going to college in Japan, I wish I had done that, I'm sure even a movie star couldn't get more high-quality snatch.

Hello again again, or the third time's the charm...

Postby Densuke Mifune » Fri Nov 10, 2006 6:47 pm

Hello again folks, this is the member formerly known as Pencilslave, and formerly known as Kaibutsu, registering for hopefully the last time and hoping I won't lose my password again.

As for the username..it's the name of the main character in the anime/manga Eiken , who I can identify with, we both find women puzzling and overwhelming at times.
Hope I haven't missed anything interesting since I've been gone,I'm looking forward to your posts.

thanks! why not just download the mp3 instead, it'll sound better

we're not currently signed, so theres no benefit whatsoever in hoarding our music, the more people who hear it the better - help yourself and pass it around if you like. there are more videos and mp3's up there as well, if you're interested i'll ftp in and remind myself what's on there at the moment.

"kulit aing" = "my skin" in indonesian.

i'd only be in tokyo for a month, though if it agreed with me i could see living there a few months out of the year, should the gods favor me and my band with a tour or a contract there. living in the tropics is great and all, and i'm planning to stay, but even paradise gets boring after a while. i miss living in a big city!

and tbh i've been a bit obsessed with japanese girls lately, for some reason.

Now, now Taro honey don't worry your widdle head about me. By referring to women as puzzling, I was referring to how even men who've been married for years find the women they love perplexing. Men and women just think differently which has caused many a misunderstanding between the two sexes throughout history.

I'm still an anime , manga and kaiju fan, but I've gotten a lot more grounded in reality.

On a related note, I picked up the Gojira two disc set that came out here in the U.S. (The feature on the making of the suit was interesting to say the least. An actor working in a suit that's so damn hot and heavy you can only wear it for five minutes at a time and it tends to make you pass out is the true definition of suffering for your art.)

Gboothe, thanks for the warm welcome.

thanks!

i first hooked up with a few of the musicians doing a project putting together a cd of asian-ethnic-meets-electronic music for a trendy restaurant/bar in singapore (a la the budha bar cd). one of the places i recorded was indonesia, after i did the cd project i wanted to put together a permanent band so i approached the indonesian guys i'd worked with. we wound up putting together an act with 3 musicians and 2 dancers (the singer dropped out at the last minute) and moving to koh phanang, thailand for 6 months. we were quite busy performing there but weren't making much money at all. plus working for the thai gangsters that owned all the clubs kinda made me nervous (koh phanang is actually a pretty scary place to do business). so eventually we moved to bali, where we've got some good, well-paying regular gigs.

moving the band to thailand was financialy draining, as we never broke even, but it went a long way in making the band "us vs. them" instead of "them (the band) vs. me (the foreign white guy)" though the guys in the band are all really good people to begin with, it's a big part of why i've continued working with them.

i'll tell ya, if we could get some work in japan we'd all be thrilled. we'd all love the experience, and a few months worth of even a crappy yen-based salary would probably be enough money for the indonesian guys and gals to buy houses in their hometowns. i'm imagining there are some world music oriented venues we could perform in tokyo, and/or maybe some ultra-trendy pan-asian restaurant-bar where we could be the house band? thats sorta what we're doing in bali, it seems to go over well.

ps. asskissinger, i've been wondering for a while - is that what i *think* it is in front of the gold budha on your avatar? when i first saw it i was like, whoa! but now that i'm taking a good look at it, i really can't tell for sure what it is...

Hello All Fucked Gaijins!

Postby Pachipro » Tue Nov 28, 2006 7:11 am

I joined this site a few years ago when I first found it and placed it in my favorites. Afterwards I got a new computer, forgot about it, joined another forum on Japan and just recently visited when I found a link on another site. I tried to register, but it said my username was already taken. I entered my password and found out I was already registered!

Anyway, 51 yo male here. Lived in Japan from 1973 - 1988, spent 4 yrs in the military and then attended Sophia University. Graduated in 1981, opened my own English School and left in late 1988 when land and housing prices went through the roof thinking I would never be able to afford my own place.

Married 21 yrs to a Japanese woman and visit Japan at least once or twice a year. Will retire permanently to Japan in a couple of years.

My handle was given to me when I started playing Pachinko in 1981 and found out that you really could make a living out of just playing Pachinko.

Hope I can add something to this site.
Do What You Love and You'll NEVER Work Another Day In Your Life!
