Dream phone

Postby Steve Bildermann » Tue May 14, 2002 8:29 am

I wonder if anybody here knows of a phone model (I got a basic J-phone at the moment) that has

- Calculator
- Voice recorder
- Calendar

And if possible to be supercool

MP3 / WMA player
Camera

I went to my local phone store and came out with a 'too many models' headache (but the salesgirl was way cute so all was not lost)

Thanks

Dream Phone

Postby Steve Bildermann » Tue May 14, 2002 9:12 am

Well it's pretty damn close. Big thanks - Queston is how come *I* can't find stuff like that so quick. Guess I'm just a F**** gaijin.

Doesn't say how cute the J-Phone sales girl is though. I guess I'll have to check that out personally. Then if I get the phone with the camera I can start a new thread 'cute phone girls I have met' :P

Ok, Breakfast and then off to see the phone girrrrls

Hm...at what point does it stop being a moble phone and start being a general purpose portable computing platform?

You realize, your post is a binding contract and you are now required to post voluminous phonecam pics.

I would suggest you start out by asking the salesgirl(s) if you can take a few shots to "test out the camera".

Do you remember the model, by any chance?

Falling off my chair laffing . Are you F**** kidding. That about 40 bazillion dead brain cells ago. But I betcha if you look up when NTT started mobile phones (say circa 1985) you could find it out. I went to an office in Marunouchi and paid about 25,000 yen for a month with the brick like thing. In those days you were hi tech if you had a pocket bell (remember them)

Man I was so cool. Ricky Sarini suits, mobile phone, pocket bell, 18lB Laptop, green car on the shinkansen. Those chicks were lining up 8)

It sounds like you were quite the Pre-Bubble Pimp Daddy Gaijin!

No kidding. I had three (count em) hot US chicks from three different bond trading houses on tap plus as many local ladies as there are bars in kabukicho. Those were THE DAYS !! whoowee 8O Then I had my first nervous breakdown and it's been downhill ever since :?

Well my dream phone is a non starter - can't get voice recorder longer than 15 seconds. That's a bummer - I can get a phone with a MP3 player, camera, email and every other doohickey but I can't get a phone with a a voice recorder (and I can't get my picture on the cover of rolling stone)

You'd think a voice recorder on a PHONE fer chrisssake would be a no brainer but hey what do I know I'm just a f***** gaijin 8O

(And maybe sometime, you'll share some more stories from the Nakasone days.)

Have you ever seen that old James Bond movie 'From Russia with Love'

There's a real cool scene where Bond and his Turkish sidekick have captured a Russian bad guy on the train. They tie him up and firmly gag him.

Bond leaves him with the Turkish guy saying 'watch him while I'm gone' The Turkish guy looks at the helpless and gagged bad guy, pulls out a cigar, slowly sits down and gregariously says 'I have led a long and interesting life, would like to hear about it?

<sound of bad guy's muffled groan>

Turkish guy - 'you WOULD good!'

I can't remember too much of the seventies and eighties in Tokyo but I'm told I was great fun. :D

PBPDG

Postby kamome » Thu May 16, 2002 4:41 pm

Sorry I missed out on the phone model conversation, but I have to say that the PBPDG is a cool addition to the FG membership club. I hope you continue to share some of that old school wisdom with us, Steve.

Prison? Murder?

Postby kamome » Fri May 17, 2002 6:31 pm

Well, hell, Steve, since you brought it up, why don't you give us the details of your prison story? It sounds like it might be the granddaddy of all F*ed Gaijin moments.

Well I tell ya that's a story that can *only* be told live (1st F*** gaijin convention maybe??)

However if your handy with Google you can probably dig it up, it made Japanese legal history and I'm told it's now used by several law schools as a teaching example. Remember Japan has a 99.9% conviction rate for all prosecutions and I am the only gaijin *ever* found not guilty by reason of SEI TOBOEI (justifiable self defense)

It was a really tough time for me but stragely now I look back and consider it to be a seminal point in my life. It made me free beyond anything I can describe.

After going through that kind of shit I am truly not scared by *any* f**** thing anybody police, government, assholes in the street says or does anymore.

I also know more about the Japanese legal system than I ever thought possible

That's some scary shit. And unbelievable that you made Japanese legal history. I'll have to look that up in my ample free time at work.
