Video Camera Cleaning Service in Japan

Postby GuyJean » Thu Nov 30, 2006 6:45 pm

I have a 6-year-old Sony TRV900 video camera that needs a good, professional head cleaning - (Don't we all). It still works fine, but when I log and capture the dirty heads cause the capture to drop; I found a fix online.. And for a test, I used a different camere, with the same tape; no problem.. And yes, I have tried a regular head cleaner tape on my old TRV..

I contacted Sony for a professional cleaning, but they're as worthless as a piece of shit in an outhouse; How much does it cost? Don't know.. How long will it take? Don't know.. Do you provide professional cleaning? Don't know.. Send it in, but you can't send it to us.. Send it to the store you bought it from, then they'll send it to us.. Ok. Fuck you very much.. (You get the idea)..

Does anyone know of a good mom and pop shop that cleans video cameras in Tokyo? I really don't want to give Sony any more of my money..

I know it's a long-shot, but thanks in advance to all!

How many times can those Sony-slime abuse their best customers like you and I GuyJean and get away with it?
Forever, I guess. We have to buy Sony dogshit quality products because they are the only ones making the prosumer goods we use. Arrrrg.

(Sorry, I do not have any repair venue suggestions. I just needed to vent and shit on Sony who shits on me nearly every year in some way. It's so funny to hear former-assistant-to-the-Sony-board Mrs Taro snarl, "it's a Sony(c)" when we are shopping in the store meaning 'let's not buy that crap.')

No worries.. I know what you mean. I guess it's frustrating because they have so much potential.. I love my old camera though..

I had to repair my Panasonic camcorder once because the damned thing wouldn't eject the tape and just be grinding gears. I took it to Bicamera to have it fixed and it cost me over 200 bucks. I regret fixing it as I never made any good use out of it and I could've spent that money towards a new camera. Expect to pay that much for repairs.

I always assume I'm going to have to plop down at least a few hundred bucks for any repair, no matter how trivial (gotta pay for the labor just to open the thing up). And I assume everything with moving parts and a 1 year warranty is designed to break after 1 year and 1 day. Figure out how upset you will be WHEN the thing breaks, and then think about buying the extended warranty. Bic's service has been great for me when repairs were covered. The extended warranty saved my life on a washing machine - they rushed out a guy next day who took a look, came back in a few hours with the correct part, and left without asking for a dime. They also repaired a badly abused notebook PC (still under manufacturer's warranty) two times for me.

I usually don't expect to keep the item for over a year as the models change from time to time. Call me jaded or whatever, but I want the latest gadget when it comes to mobile phones and cameras.

Having something for 6 years is pretty insane. Does your sony look like this?

A Sony product with moving parts lasted 6 years?? Count yourself lucky, that's at least 4.5 years longer than normal.

(Yes, I despise Sony and the absolute piece of shit products they produce.)

I believe it's still one of the best high-end consumer cameras out there]http://www.fuckedgaijin.com/forums/images/vbimghost/18456f36fdb0501.jpg[/img]
(I think I understand why it's at least a few hundred bucks to service).. BTW, it's not broken; it just needs a good, professional cleaning..

A cool site with pictures of it being disassembled.
