Osaka Prefecture has launched Brand-New Osaka, a free publication for international readers designed to improve the brand image of Osaka by introducing the prefecture's numerous attractions. The launching of the publication, which has English, Chinese and Korean editions, is the first for a local government in Japan. The 8-page, tabloid quarterly publication carries hot information from Osaka and will have a circulation of 125,000 (50,000 copies each in English and Chinese and 25,000 copies in Korean). The first issue of the publication introduces the culinary culture of Osaka, including special articles on instant ramen (Chinese noodles). It also carries information on tourist spots in Umeda in central Osaka and National Museum of Ethnology in Senri, Osaka. The copies will be placed at facilities for international students, hotels, airports, etc., in Japan. Outside of Japan, they will be distributed to government agencies, universities, travel agents, Japanese companies, etc., especially those in major Asian cities, such as Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong and Seoul.
