I'm getting Jacked the same way.

Between tax, pension, medical, and whatever other nightmare deductions, my winter bonus (received today :)) shrunk by damn near 30%. Fuckers.

Having just retired from the second Japanese government job and gone amaku dairi again (which will lead to a third retirement), I would like to extend my sincere appreciation to all of you who are getting fucked. I would like you to know that in honor of your sacrifices, I am only spending your money at the best and sleeziest of places that Roppongi has to offer.

As soon as I can escape salaryman tax hell I will do everything legally possible to not support you gb... Nothing personal but taxes suck.

30% would be a dream for me. Here in the States, between federal, state and local taxes, my salary is reduced by close to a 50% effective rate of tax. Talk about a raping...or a Jacking. :(

Yes, if I was in the US or Canada I'd be at 50% as well, so it is low in comparison... However it is still at least 20 percentage points too high!!!

Hopefully I'm a nonsalaryman by this time next year, or nearly so. Aah, deductions, glorious deductions.

I heard from a Swedish friend who's better off than me that once you pass a certain salary level, which I unfortunately haven't passed yet, J taxes start looking like Scandanavia.

Yes, once you pass 10 million yen things start to get bad. There is one level above that but I can't remember where it starts.

Many things besides tax rates depend on your salary too. Kids daycare for example, as well as national health and of course retirement.

As with most countries the worker is the one who gets fucked the worst. It's not possible to deduct anything besides normal crap like life insurance. Owning a business changes things considerably though, many things can be partially or totally written off. A good tax accountant is worth their weight in gold.
