Macintosh Video Card Question.

Postby American Oyaji » Sat Dec 09, 2006 12:47 pm

Ok, I want to get an PCI ATI Radeon 9200 for this B&W G3 I just got. (i'll be upgrading this as a project and it will eventually be an internal media server for me)

Here's the deal. The PC version is selling for $30 in some places, while the Mac version is selling for $120 and up. BUT IT'S THE SAME DAMN CARD!!

On the net, there is a flash utility and a Macintosh ROM for this card so one can flash it from a PC card to a MAC card and it will work. My friend did it, but figured he would never need it again and deleted the stuff.

Any of you able to put your hands on this software quickly before I slog through the net?

Google says:

http://www.cubeowner.com/kbase_2/index.php?category=40

Yeah, that's what google says, but there are two problems with THAT site.

1. It's based mainly on AGP boards. (I need a PCI)
2. All the links to the 9200 ROMs are gone.

Ahh. Thanks Lurker.
Someone had posted a link to ANOTHER site that I had to register on their forum and behind the registration they had links to what I was looking for.
I think the links that can be easily spidered were shut down by ATI/AMD.

Fuggit dude. Put it on the 2-do project bench and go get that MacBook. ;)

My functional BW 400 awaits my nephew. I am trying to get it running with Tiger a bit better. Panther seems to be the last really stable OS for that old beast. I run a Radeon vid card 7000 in that.

If you like to modify stuff to save a few bucks, help yourself. I am of the mind to bite the bullet and buy only Mac certified gear. Even if it costs more, you have somewhere to go if the piece of hardware goes south.

Glad it all worked out in the end! Good luck with the flash.
