Rape of Nanking Documentary On Google Video

NAM: Rape of Nanking Documentary Gets over a Million Viewers
Over one million Google Video users have downloaded the independent documentary called "The Rape of Nanking," which chronicles Japan's WWII atrocities in China, reports the Chinese- language Sing Tao Daily. The Imperial Japanese Army raped and killed women, children, and civilians in December of 1937. Some experts estimate the death toll to be about 300,000 in a six-week period. The documentary, also called "Nightmare in Nanking," was produced by Rhawn Joseph and Wu Haiyan. Since the film was released, Joseph said he has received threatening letters from Japanese viewers who say that the film smears Japan's image. But Joseph said that his goal was for the majority of Americans to know about the history of the Rape of Nanking in the wake of the 70th anniversary of the massacre in 2007.

The documentary is 1 hour 17 mins long. I haven't watched it yet so I can't comment on its accuracy or presentation.

I just finished it. It is a very long boring piece of anti-Japanese propaganda that appears to serve no other interest than those of Chinese wanting to provoke Japan some more.

Obviously the events that occured in and around Nanking and the rest of China during the war are well known and the only major argument among most educated people about the attrocities is how many were actually killed.

Unfortunately, pieces of work like this contain enough mistakes and/or inaccuracies ranging from the little ones like "Prince Asaka became a golf pro" (he did develop an interest in course design and actually played, but was far from a pro), to major ones concerning attributation of the reporting by some of the on scene people, or that 731 was personally ordered set up by Hirohito himself. It is this type of sprinkling of errors throughout that also provides the ammunition to shoot this down. It did the same for Iris Chang's book on Nanking and does nothing but take the focus off the actual facts therein. The redundant dialogue, often repeating previous passages three and four times, also does not make for a flowing documentary.

This type of film also gives detractors and denialists what they need to keep the argument going that Nanking never occured and/or that it occurred on a much smaller scale than claimed.

It really does appear like a WWII propaganda film that has been reworked to appear to be a recent release. The communist undertones are also not too well disguised.

Having said all that, I wonder if that Chnese writer/interpreter (seen in the credits at the very end) is available for private tutoring?

Man, what a load of crap that is. China had never invaded another country in it's 4,000 year history!? Waging war on its neighbors was not part of China's Confucian character!? China was always self sufficient and never needed nor took anything from its neighbors!?

It would have been much better had they used Monty Python's "I like Chinese" as the theme song.

Certainly! The Khans were Monguls and as such, not subject to anything Confucian, which thereby authorized all rape, pillage and plunder as an acceptable outlet to preclude boredom.

Does that include a desire to nail the Chinese translator? If so, just remember, I claimed dibs on her first!

YouTube user Tanagawboat has uploaded the video Fake of Nanking. He repeatedly shows a shot of an execution towards the end to show that it was not footage from Nanking. The picture below was inserted at the halfway mark to make for a warm, cuddly YouTube thumbnail.
