Freedom Fries with your Liberty Burger?

Postby GuyJean » Fri Mar 14, 2003 10:46 am

Bill Proposed to Allow Return of U.S. Vets Buried in France
http://www.cnn.com/2003/ALLPOLITICS/03/13/sprj.irq.congress.france/index.html
In another swipe at the French, a Florida congresswoman has proposed that the government pay for families who might want to bring home from France the remains of Americans who fought and died in the world wars.

Having US taxpayers pay for this is a 'swipe' at the French?
Earlier this week, the chairman of the House Administration Committee, Rep. Bob Ney, R-Ohio, ordered that House restaurants change their menus to read "freedom fries" instead of French fries. French toast would also become freedom toast.

How bout 'potato furai', like what the Japanese call them. Or 'chips' to show solidarity with England.

Freedom fries?!? :? This ranks up there in worthlessness with Tamao Suzuki (Tama-chan)

If they want to do something effective, they should impose 100% tarriffs on French imports, and start petitioning to eliminate French announcements during the Olympics.. Replace it with Chinese.

Freedom fries...ha, ha, ha

Postby Marvin Feltcher » Fri Mar 14, 2003 12:30 pm

Does this mean we have to start using freedom letters, too?
And what about freedom kisses?
And the freedom disease?
And freedom loaves?
Sacre bleu!
Wonder what the French are going to start calling the frogs, slugs and snails that they always eat.

Freedom Fries without French kissing?

Notice it's only FRENCH Fries that are the problem ... no American is serious about banning German Hamburger even though Germans are just as anti-Smirking-Chimp-War as the French.

I like this ....
"We need to do away with French toast, French bread, French kissing -- all of it," says Gates, a Grand Rapids radio fixture for three decades.

What's next? Renaming any street that has the word Lafayette in it? What about the Statue of Liberty?

This is pretty stupid stuff. Taxation shouldn't be used as weapon for political gain (the tariff idea).

I have a better idea: move the U.N. to France.

Actually, I saw a report on Japanese TV where some mid-west hamburger joints are changing the name to Liberty burgers!

But what about Budweiser!!? My Marine roomy in Hawaii had some wacky acronyms for Budweiser.

Because U Deserve What Every Individual Serviceman.. E (forgot).. R (forgot)

and backwards:

Reason Every Serviceman In Every W.. (forgot) Died Under Battle

Maybe someone can remind me of the acronym..

I was mostly joking, but wasn't there high tariffs on French wines and cheeses about 8 years ago due to political wanking? I'm not sure what about though..

Irony

Postby Marvin Feltcher » Fri Mar 14, 2003 12:47 pm

Conservative columnist Charles Krauthammer opined that the French opposition is sabotage

Krauthammer...what irony! If only he'd been Froghammer, or Frenchammer, of Frankhammer.
no American is serious about banning German Hamburger even though Germans are just as anti-Smirking-Chimp-War as the French.

Perhaps Mr. Krauthammer has something to do with this?

What about the French giving Saddam asylum in France? French whores, wine and cheese. How can anyone pass up a deal like that?

Plus, the French and Saddam share a lot of the same personality traits; meglomaniatic American haters

Just give the current tenants 30 days notice, then get out the wrecking ball and knock the building down. If the world wants to meet, let them build a new one in Paris.

I am getting so tired of this American arrogance and for once I am seeing that the supposed superpower is backtracking from its war efforts. If the US looks after its own interest, why is it that France cannot look after its own economic interests with Iraq. Fuck that "only us" attitude of Americans.

Changing French Fries to Freedom Fries shows how juvenile and arrogant those morons in the US are. I dare you f*ckers to engage in a war with Iraq.

Here's my nomination for Jack as next Secretary General of the U.N. Pray tell me where you want us to build the new building? On the Rhone, the Rhine, or the banks of the Champs Elysee?

France can do what it wants, but it should be prepared to accept the consequences as well. Granted that they've done a bang up job in the Ivory Coast.

Or what? You'll start flying planes into buildings? Go for it, bro..

Don't judge all Americans by Gaisa.. There are a lot of AMERICANS opposed to this planned war too.. You might do better by befriending them, rather than trying to piss them off.

I do my share of bitching about my own country, but when someone else starts slinging mud, you betcha', I'll defend it. In fact, I'm a little disturbed at all the US flag burning. Bush burning, I dont' give a shit.. But my grandfather, as well as MOST American ancestors fought and died for, not the simple material of the flag, but what it represented to them. I can't imagine what my grandfather thinks when seeing foreigners burning the US flag.

So go for it, man. Burn that flag, AND the bridges to any dialogue from 'empathetic' Americans.

I always seem to remember Yugoslavia, and all the bitching before AND after the US stepped in; BEFORE: Why aren't you here?!! AFTER: Why ARE you here?

Maybe the question isn't the STRENGTH of the US, but the WEAKNESS of others..

I understand your anger, but pissing off those who agree with you is exactly what Bush is guilty of now.

GJ,

Thanks for a very elloquent reply. I re-read what I had wrote and remembered what I had learnt long time ago in my Dale Carnagie seminars: never write something in anger. These days I am fuming about all the French-bashing. I think your last sentence was bang on and it is this goodwill that the US had amassed following September 11 that Bush managed to squander becasue of his arrogant gunslinging attitude. In many countries around the world including, Canada, war doesn't play well and is reluctantly agreed to only for humanitarian reasons like Kosovo.

Anyway, I am gloating at the fact Bush now realizes that America cannot go at it alone no matter how strong he thinks his military is. That is why I said "I dare you..."

So, for my earlier post I say, gomennasai.

Actually Jack, the U.S. CAN go it alone, and when we go in, it will probably only be the U.S. and the British that do the majority of any fighting.
What Bush is trying to do is to pin the U.N. down on some set guidlines for Hussein.

At the End of the Gulf War, the U.N. told Hussein to disarm. At one point he kicked out the U.N. inspectors sent to make sure he did that.

The United States pressed the issue last summer and the U.N. sent in more inspectors. The U.S. has evidence that Iraq HAS NOT disarmed according to the dictates of the U.N. HOW they acquired this evidence, I'm sure is a security issue that the U.S. doesn't want to get into or reveal to the world.

Basically for 12 years, Hussein has been Jacking around the U.N. and the U.S. is calling them on the carpet to grow a pair and do what needs to be done. i.e. disarm Sadaam, because we KNOW he ain't gonna do it on his own.

We COULD have done this at the last gulf war. But WE went along with the dictates of the U.N., and what did Sadaam do? Said he was sorry. Played along with the weapon inspectors and then kicked them out after the U.S. had pulled out of attacking range. And since then, he has been building up again.

Its not about the U.S. flexing it muscles at all. It's about enforcing of the dictates that the U.N. itself put in place for Sadaam.
The reason the FRENCH don't want us to go in is because they do a LOT of business with Sadaam. This is indeed a fact. Russia as well. Russia sells arms to Iran and Iraq still TO THIS DAY. That is why they are the primary voices of opposition to us going in.

Another reason we need to remove Sadaam is the fact that he is a supporter of terrorism. This is a fact as well.

HOWEVER. I think Bush could slow down and not press the issue in such aggressive terms, but still be firm. I believe he should have taken the U.N. as far as it was willing to go and THEN if they didn't act, move the troops in. Not before.
I will not abide ignorant intolerance just for the sake of getting along.

No worries.. Like I said, I think MOST Americans understand your frustration.

Although, there's an 'uneasy' 59% support for this war, the support drops substantially without UN backing.. I believe around 39%.. (Or it was last week). But, again. This 'support' is very uneasy. I think it's mostly to send a message to the troops.

Anyway, gotta run..

In actuality

Postby Gaisaradatsuraku! » Sat Mar 15, 2003 10:25 am

Actually, my hope is that we don't have to fight a war. I just think it is necessary, however, and am a little smarter than the Canadian pollyanna of the board who thinks his country's free riding is indicative of their moral superiority (cough, cough).

Besides the Canadians are with us on this one and are fortunately not listening closely to Jack and his ilk. In addition, I've got to say it's kind of funny listening to Jack claim the high road when he freely admits to being a serial adulterist and a guy who has no qualms about banging strange broads just prior to tieing the knot with Ms. Right.

There should be a section in Ripley's for guys like that.

I am sorry to say that you are dead wrong on this score. There is no support for the war in Canada whatsoever. In fact there is an unofficial unanimity that Bush in fact is a moron. And the free riding that you are talking about, if the US was not exporting $80 billion or so a year of merchandise to Canada we may not be worth protecting. I think that Canada is the only country in the world with whom the US runs a trade surplus.

No, actually, your government will support us. That's the official view. BTW I think Bush only acts like a moron. He probably is not truly dumb. He is very inarticulate and a bad public speaker. Listen to his message instead of focusing on just how he comes across.

whether our government will support the US does not indicate public support. On Main Street Canada there is not support for the war. There might be some in Alberta but other than that, no support.

I am willing to listen to Bush's message. The problem is, he has no message. Everytime he talks is war, war and war or weapons of mass destruction and things like that. He pulls the US out of the Kyoto Protocol, out of the World Court and the Non Proliferations Treaty. So far the only message I have heard is arrogant gunslinging. And then people like you, being arrogant as well, support him. "We are the strongest country on eartth", "We have the biggest bokbs"... skoodly doo... I don't care.
