Japan doesn't even have 4 full seasons; more like two long, miserable seasons mixed in with a couple pleasant micro ones.. I call them 'Spr' and 'Aut'.. ;)

WINTER and SUMMER have been rather mild the last few years in Tokyo though..

And we're right in middle of it too. It feels like winter already started a month ago when winter doesn't officially start until the 23rd of this month.

If that survey weren't multiple choice and the folks had to come up with their own answers I think you'd see the results to be totally different.

'Looking at the breakdown by age for other interesting choices, they included being a gun-free society...

That's not quite true. OK, compared to the US, maybe so, but there are guns in Japan, even legally. Hunting rifles or shotguns are allowed here. And there are gun murders, too.

But it is interesting to see this kind of survery.

Well compared Australia Japan seems to have at least 4 distinct seasons. Sydney has two seasons. Summer and not summer... I can definatly see how that influences the culture there. Even if this survey does represent popular opinion I dont see what is wrong with identifying seasonal change with cultural traits.

Unless im missing the point.

Edit: K, actually read the article... I think thats spinning things a little to put those results in nihonjinron territory, From what I can tell it seems pretty harmless.

P.S. Just for the record, I freaking hate nationalism. Even patriotism turns my stomach.
