A few of the weekly tabloids have been claiming that since a new revision in Japanese divorce laws will go into effect in April 2007 giving wives a claim of up to 50% on their husbands' pensions, many women are holding off on springing the divorce papers on their hapless hubbies to wait until they can take a deeper cut.
One of my co-workers and I started making picks around the office on who'd be most likely to get an April surprise from their wives. Of all the married guys, the one we agreed was most likely was this sad-sack closeted designer whose wife is constantly putting him down. Next would be the flaming a-hole of a kacho who never quits bitching about how his wife doesn't work hard enough at home. Seeing the look on his face after she drops the bombshell would almost make it worth putting up with extra hostility for the next six months.
So... anyone you know likely to get surprised this April? Know anyone planning to give a surprise?
