Pornography makers will soon release sexually explicit discs for Sony Computer Entertainment Inc.'s PlayStation Portable (PSP) game console, whose majority of users are minors. Two makers of adult movies have already announced plans to sell their products for the PSP as early as July. The problem is that the Sony's PSP game console that now will have adult-video discs available is that the PornStation Portable(tm) is a 2-handed device. Hmmm.

I wish that someone would look into this and ask Sony some hard questions about this. I had thought that one of key things for Sony with the UMD was that it was something they had total control over. It's not the porn I'm curious about but it is not often when big firm like Sony basically says 'Yeah, those porno guys total rooked us and there's nothing we can do about it'

Conspiracy theorists, however, have been quick to suggest that although SCE may officially frown on the porn titles being released, the firm may actually be happy to see them appear on the UMD format.

The company could well recall, they argue, that its Betamax video format was killed off by the competing VHS format partially because Sony refused to allow porn to be released on Betamax, giving VHS a significant competitive edge in the market.

It will be interesting to see how retailers handle this many titles....As it is, many retailers haven't decided where to put them...some in game cases (with other PSP games) and others with movies and others in their own little section neither in movies or games.

NPA: 30% of porn comics feature sex with kids
The Yomiuri Shimbun

About 30 percent of pornographic comics for adults portray sexual acts involving children, according to a survey by the National Police Agency.

Because minors have little trouble buying such comics over the Internet, the NPA will ask comic publishers and related industries to take measures to help prevent such comics from being sold to them.

The agency took 100 samples from about 9,000 pornographic comics last month, and found 30 that included sexual acts with children. Five involved children of primary school age or younger.

Minors can buy these comics through Internet Web sites that do not verify the age of buyers. These comics also were available at convenience stores, and because they are covered in nontransparent wrapping, some children were not uncomfortable about being seen by store staffers when buying from the store staff or being seen by their family. Liberal Democratic Party members of Tokyo's Shinagawa Ward Assembly have attached sales receipts for comics, detective novels and even pornography to their funding reports for political research expenses, according to information disclosed by the assembly.

Although the receipts do not show the titles of the books and publications purchased, the International Standard Book Number (ISBN) stated on them made it possible to identify the specific books and magazines.

The LDP members admitted that they had spent part of the funds on inappropriate books and are examining past funding reports to return the funds spent on such materials.

The assembly does not require its members to provide the titles of publications purchased in their funding reports, but receipts printed out by major bookstores usually include the ISBN for each item purchased.

According to documents disclosed by the assembly following a request by The Yomiuri Shimbun, there were at least 11 crime novels, written by Misa Yamamura, Yasuo Uchida, Arimasa Osawa and other authors listed along with dictionaries, critical essays and other books on the receipts from fiscal 2004 to the first half of fiscal 2006....more...
