[floatr]Image[/floatr]Mainichi: Inventor of "Cup Noodle" Momofuku Ando dies at 96
Momofuku Ando, inventor of the instant ramen noodle and founding chairman of Nissin Food Products Co., died of a heart attack on Friday evening. He was 96. Born in Taiwan, Ando initially set up a trading company in Taipei before founding a wholesale company in Osaka in 1933. Ando decided to deal in food after seeing people suffer from poor diet during World War II. Later, he built a laboratory in the garden of his home in Ikeda, Osaka Prefecture, and began developing instant noodles there. By trial and error Ando found a method to dry noodles using hot oil, and finally succeeded in the development of the world's first instant noodle in 1958, called "Chicken Ramen." The instant noodle was a big hit, and his company marketed instant "Cup Noodles" in 1971. Ando opened an instant ramen museum in Ikeda in 1999, where visitors can experience the creation of instant noodles.

Wanna take bets he died of stomach cancer? :devil2:
(Cup ramen is a major contributing factor to Japan's highest-in-the-world stomach cancer rate.)

At age 96 would it matter?

This very sad news for me. Many time I have been on ninja mission and only have instant noodle for the food. Much convenience for ninja because carry and cooking is easy. Other food like okonomiyaki not much suitable for ninja mission. Time for prepare is too long and ninja need concentrate on ninja things not chef things.
My name Shinichi. I ninja of Japan. I now sometime write at website that is locate here. Please to meet you.

Elvis Costello writes on his website about his new album "Momofuku":

"Why is it called "Momofuku"?

Well, obviously the title is a tribute to Momofuku Ando, the inventor of the Cup Noodle. Like so many things in this world of wonders, all we had to do to make this record was add water. Now, I understand that there is also a fancy eatery in New York City that has made the same connection with Ando-San. So, just in case anybody is inclined to mistake our record for something edible, we've added a disclaimer to the record jacket.
