Indeed an article of many sad stories. What really surprises me though is the naivety of these girls - honestly with all of the reporting they still believe that they can come to Japan and work in a bakery or house-cleaning after the expenses. Wouldn't the offer seem a bit too good to be true?
Or maybe the image of Japan still being a country of wealth is still going strong in some places...

Or America, or Australia, or England................. add any nation that has a better base pay than a neibouring, poor GDP nation. I say nation because in SE Asia the poor hill tribes sell thier daughters to the 'richer' city dwellers supposedly to give them a chance for a better life. Sad but true, this is only the ones found and/or able to tell their story to an 'outsider'.
Sex tours to supposed developing nations still exist and will continue to exist while sad losers will continue to pay for them. Slavery for people who will decry the same "at home". Pathetic but true.
Sorry about the rant, this is one topic that strikes too close to my little reality.
