I mentioned to Captain Japan that I'd seen a clip a while back which explained that the question of whether the head on a beer is beer had been decided in a Japanese court. I found the video again on YouTube (above). No subtitles.
In 1940, a customer in Ueno complained that the head on his beer was too large. Police investigated the beer hall and concluded that the proprietor was not selling a glass of "beer" as advertised since the head was so large. An expert testified, however, that the alcohol content of the foam was greater than the liquid. In 1944, the court ruled that the head of a beer was also beer.
