[floatr]Image[/floatr]SI.Com: Hey nineteen
Superstitious or not, Japanese golfer Mitsuhiro Tateyama is likely to shudder whenever he comes across the number 19 in future after a horrific round at this week's Acom International. Still, though, Tateyama could see the funny side after setting a Japanese record by taking 19 on a par-3 hole at the Ishioka Golf Club on Thursday...It was the worst single-hole score since Norio Suzuki incorrectly signed for a 42, his nine-hole total, at a Japanese tournament in 1987. [floatl]Image[/floatl]Yomiuri: JLPGA player gets 10-year suspension
Ai Takinami, who was accused of altering her scorecard in the Japan LPGA qualifying tournament in October, was suspended for 10 years, the JLPGA announced Thursday. JLPGA managing directors held a disciplinary committee meeting Thursday morning and decided to suspend Takinami for an unprecedented period of 10 years after they confirmed that the 26-year-old player had admitted committing the wrongdoing. Takinami will be banned from playing in any JLPGA tournament and will not be allowed to earn any money from teaching until Dec. 28, 2016. "That conduct [altering a scorecard] is against the spirit of the game. We are very sorry for our fans," LPGA chairwomen Hisako Higuchi said at a press conference. According to JLPGA officials, Takinami, who has to yet to record a tour victory since turning professional in 2001, altered her scores on two holes after her marker had signed her scorecard following the first round of the second qualifying tournament held at the Northshore Country Club in Ibaraki Prefecture on Oct. 31.
