It's also for sale at AM PM. Saw it there at lunch today.

I gotta get down to the conbini and see what all this fuss is about.
Does anyone know if its a nationwide publication? Might have trouble finding it down here if its not.

J-girls who want to fuck gaijin only are called jealously "肉便器" by J-boys.
Actually there seem to be not a few J-girls who like euro-american gaijin chinpoko.
But unfortunately there are a few J-boys who like euro-american gaijin pussy or euro-american girls who like J-chinpoko.
As one of son of Chrsanthemum, I admit that honestly.

by the way, A girl of Chrysanthemum throne too seem to be one of "肉便器".
She is in Edinburgh now.

The guy at Japan Probe is trying to start a boycott of Family Mart.

Since amdg has already spotted it in am/pm and omae mona picked one up on Amazon, there's a fair chance that it is being sold elsewhere too.

I'm a little bit skeptical that any of these companies will be swayed by a boycott. Books like the 2005 manga 嫌] (translated perhaps as "hating the Korean wave") and the 2006 sequel [url=http://www.amazon.co.jp/%E3%83%9E%E3%83%B3%E3%82%AC%E5%AB%8C%E9%9F%93%E6%B5%812-%E5%B1%B1%E9%87%8E-%E8%BB%8A%E8%BC%AA/dp/4883805166/sr=8-2/qid=1170417845/ref=sr_1_2/249-5477392-7637929?ie=UTF8&s=books]嫌韓流 2 are customer reviewed at 4.5 out of 5 stars on Amazon, were bestsellers, and are still on bookstore shelves everywhere. Even a New York Times article discussed this book, and it sure didn't change sales policies anywhere.

In fact, I think the attention from a boycott movement will increase sales and is probably exactly what the publisher was shooting for.

Damn, why is there no Family Mart or AM/PM around here. This would be interesting 'on the train' reading!

I wonder if I can take out a subscription. I love to read about the J-fellow's paranoia over the big gaijin johnson, it really does wonders for my ego. Makes me walk a little taller while going to the train station in the morning!

Kinokuniya's stocking the book

Postby rooboy » Sat Feb 03, 2007 11:05 am

Send an email to
webmaster@kinokuniya.com

telling them that for a supposedly serious bookshop they're sleazy and in the gutter to be stocking this kind of racist garbage. Especially one that uses the word 'nigger'. Keep sending the emails protesting and tell them you won't shop there anymore and you'll tell your friends to boycott their store.

My opinion's that its worse for kinokuniya to stock the book than a convenience store that stocks all kind of shit on its shelves.

Various thoughts, no order.

1. Got to admit, after having picked up my copy, it seems like an otaku rag. Fetishizes illegal/immoral behaviour of foreign other, kinda like a proxy or vicarious experience of dirty/sexy criminality for right-wing, racist J-nerds.

2. You can also buy this publication at Sunkus. That's where I bought mine.

3. The publishers are obviously gutless and wanting to comment on J society but cannot take aim for fear of reprisal. This kind of nasty shit exists in Japan, perpetrated by the Japanese. Of that there is no question. The big difference is that your average J-citizen can read and write Japanese and would therefore kick up a big stink. Publications like this are spleen vents for a disenfranchised generation relying on nationalistic stereotypes from the past.

In other words - band-aids for the fact that they have no job security, no hope, a shit environment and nothing to live for except a completely corrupt psuedo meritocracy-gerontocracy.

I was feeling punchy last night, so on my way home I stopped at one of the three Familymarts within walking distance of my house. I asked the guy behind the counter if the tencho was there knowing he wouldn't be because it was too late. He said he wasn't so I asked when the tencho would be there because I had a question for him. I then called the guy out from behind the counter and showed him the magazine and asked why they sold that kind of discriminitory magazine. He didn't know what to say so I let him know that I didn't blame him and understood he was just a part-timer and then asked the question again. Then I told him I'm just a regular guy working in Japan and I found that kind of thing unbelievable. He said, OK, I'll get rid of it and he took the remaining copies off the shelf and took them into the back. I thanked him and left. Once I was outside I looked into the area behind the counter and noticed he was showing it to another employee and having a pretty animated discussion.

I'm sure they just put them back later but I thought it was a pretty interesting reaction. Although he did look pretty surprised by the content once I actually took it off the shelf and showed him what was in it.

Curiosity got the better of me, and me and the wife stopped at FM last night to buy one. We took it to her parents shop and all had a wee read at it.

I regret my decision to buy the damn thing, just putting money in the publishers coffers and all, but I wasnt that shocked about the contents.
The majority of the content is against asian gaijin, which in itself is terrible, but hardly shocking in Japan.

There is no question as to whether or not they will get away with it, they already have.

I dont see the point making a huge deal about this, and not some other action like barring foreigners entry on their non japanese status.

This kind of discrimination is obviously wrong, but it is not going to disappear overnight.

Japan, the most backward advanced country in the world.

This looks like a great way to embarrass Japanese liberals. As for all the Gaijin fools trying to get them off the shelves, what the fuck are you doing? Bigots are bigots and they ain't going to change. The only people who are likely going to buy this magazine (other than incensed gaijin) are otakus.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

I agree with most of this but what is going to embarrass Japanese liberals?

You mean the articles themselves? The liberals obviously had no hand in this crap.
