18 months...

Postby devicenull » Tue Jan 30, 2007 5:41 am

It has been 18 months... which followed 3 weeks, which followed 14 months. I have spent almost 1/10th of my life in China now and am going insane. Can't really survive back in the states without massive amounts of counseling, and I kinda got myself stuck here now.

My biggest worries in going home to the states for all of 12 days now center around fun things like "How many times will the cops stop me for ID?", "How sick will I get from the food?" and "Jetlag? YAY Jetlag!!!"

And to top it all off, there's a large chance that when I get back to Beijing (home), the company is going to take a trip to Vegas for a week or two... so I get to go through it all over again!!! YAY!!!!

Fuck 14 hour flights, I am going to play the game "How Many Cuban Cigars Can I Smuggle Past Customs?"

Not the greatest, but not bad.... still, going insane lately.

I need real Japanese food for some reason. I cannot stand all this fake fake fake shit. Even when it is costing 5 times as much as it does in Japan, it is completely wrong

When you drop trowel to plow make sure to smack the rump on that sow.

Oddly enough, I haven't had a problem with this since the old customs agency got folded with the INS into the Bureau of Customs and Immigration Services. In the late '90s guards would occasionally ask if I was carrying any contraband, but in 2003 I flew back home with two dozen Romeo y Julietas and a liter of Czech absinthe and all the customs inspector had to say was "Is that absinthe? Cool!"

Whats wrong with Beijing? Damn - I'd trade you in a heartbeat. Only spent .1% of my life there, and for the cost of living differences, you can easily fly to Tokyo every month for a ramen or takuyaki fix. The best restaraunts I've eaten in are in Beijing. You just gotta roll with the 'party' to get in. 798, Bro - where can find anything CLOSE to that in T-Town??
See you in PyonPyang!

798 is cool, yea. Beijing food sucks though. If you know where to look (xidan) you can grab up some takuyaki that is almost right, but not quite. Beijing food is essentially just food from everywhere else with more salt and oil thrown on it. If it is supposed to be spicy, it is dulled down.

Found the only greek restaurant in town the other night though... that was good gyros. :)
