Japan's real princess

Postby Taro Toporific » Mon Mar 17, 2003 3:20 pm

What's the age of Japan's real princess? Check out thePrincess Tenko website.
ImageIllusionist to the North
She's perhaps the greatest illusionist in Japan. These days, Princess Tenko is popular in North Korea, too, with Kim Jong Il among her most avid fans...
...the princess has received continual invitations to perform again before the Dear Leader. But those Northern vibes don't seem to agree with her constitution. Back in Pyongyang last month for an extravaganza to mark the birthday of Kim's late father,Tenko became so ill during her visit she was hospitalized, delaying her return. Her ordeal fueled wide speculation in Japanese tabloids that the sudden sickness had been a ploy to keep her in Pyongyang. Some papers recalled how Tenko was almost kidnapped last year...

And today's gossip putting Princess Tenko with Jean-Claude Van Damme, and that he uses, "a clone whenever he comes to Japan because the tabloids had a field day with him last summer when he was linked to a Japanese illusionist named Tenko Hikida. Although he is married, rumors swirled that they were an item and that she was going to make his wife vanish."

Could she perhaps be Japanese born Korean?

Or is she part of the extended royal family?

BTW, she had a TV show here in the states a while back.

But I've never known that joke to get any response out of Japanese]

Wait, no one really knows whether or not any of the royal family descends from Korean immigrants. It is all speculation. No?

The Japan Times has an interview with Princess Tenko. She still comes across as distinctly odd but in a better light than I previously thought.

Japan Times: Princess of pure mystery

This seems like rubbish, though:
Is it really true that your contracts with Mattel, Saban Entertainment and your promoters require you to remain looking 24 years old like the dolls made after you, and restrict who you can marry?

Contracts with each company are as thick as 2 meters. With Mattel it's mostly about the way I look, like hairstyle, hair color, weight, figure and skin color. That with Saban has a lot to do with name usage.

Manager: They are both lifetime contracts, so she has to maintain her looks for life. She can only marry a U.S. citizen according to the contract, as U.S. children believe from the cartoon that she is an American superstar.

What happens if you violate the contract?

There will be a penalty.

Like in the billions?

Manager: More than that.

JAPANESE magician Princess Tenko, who has charmed North Korean leader Kim Jong-Il, was seriously injured when metal swords trapped her in a box during a performance.
Tenko, who has performed in North Korea at the invitation of the reclusive leader, broke her right cheek and ribs on stage in the central Japanese city of Sabae on Sunday, her office has said...more...

She (and her manager) at least have a great sense of humor. :biggrin2:
Mr Kobayashi: First, I experienced a sort of overpowering feeling whenever I was in the room with foreigners, not to mention a powerful body odor coming from them. I don't know whether it was a sweat from the heat or a cold sweat, but I remember I was sweating whenever they were around.
