Let's Nuclear HAPPY!

N. Korea prods Japan into buildup
USA TODAY / Mar/16/2003 6:46 PM
TOKYO -- Japan is preparing to launch spy satellites, speeding up development of missile defenses, building its commando forces and expanding the range of its air force in response to what it sees as a growing threat from North Korea. In addition, a few right-wing politicians here are suggesting that Japan build nuclear weapons to counter North Korea's aggressive moves. That idea has almost no public support in the only country ever to have been struck with nuclear weapons. But the topic is no longer taboo...

What a clown:
Japan has a pacifist constitution, imposed by the United States after World War II to keep Japan from becoming a military power again.

That constitution does not bar Japan from having a military. It has a 160,000-strong self-defense force.

Well, only the Japanese can enforce their own constitution, but Article 9, as written in the original English, is very clear:

Chapter II Renunciation of War

Article 9

(1) Aspiring sincerely to an international peace based on justice and order, the Japanese people forever renounce war as a sovereign right of the nation and the threat or use of force as means of settling international disputes.
(2) In order to accomplish the aim of the preceding paragraph, land, sea, and air forces, as well as other war potential, will never be maintained. The right of aggression of the state will not be recognized.

It doesn't get any clearer than that, no matter how the Jimento bigwigs try and parse it.

I doubt there will be ANYONE paying attention to Article 9 after the first NK missile manages to hit Tokyo (it'll take a few dozen tries). Right now this is the Party Line of Japan Inc...

Tokyo gets set for Iraq action
The Asahi Shimbun / March 17
Koizumi will declare Japan's support for U.S. and Britain as soon as war starts.
Japan plans to help out with refugees displaced after an attack on Iraq but will not likely provide logistics support for the war nor share its cost, according to measures drawn up by the government, sources said over the weekend.

That's certainly true, but journalists should at least get their facts right.

I should certainly hope that Japan would defend the nation as fully as possible. I live about 5 minutes from a J-tai facility, and they look like a bunch of cub scouts.. loosely organized, the fence surrounding the compound could easily be compromised.. I seldom see them doing much of anything, besides exercising. Once in a blue moon I might see them target practicing, or doing helicopter training exercises.. but that is rare.

I think they would shit their pants if faced with a war, without the US there to back them up. I mean look at Japanese today.. a lot of the men look too scared and weak to even work, much less defend the nation. The women, for the most part are stuck on beauty, high priced goods, and entertainment.. The cops are a sham too.. They ride around loaded with sticks, and flags ready to slam you down.. even their riot cops look funny.. with all that gear, the shields etc.. you'd think they were about to attack Rome or something..

The funniest thing is they would think too long about how to respond, and by that time it would all be over.

I think NK could devastate Japan in a matter of days without the help of Allied nations.

Just my observation.

As far as I can tell, J-tai guards aren't issued any bullets which is also the case with many Japanese police.

I tell you. I think I stuck my foot in my mouth or something is really fishy...

Today on the way home, the J-Tai boyz were outside with about 40 surface to air missles.. getting them, as it appeared to me, ready for battle.. They also had a couple tanks outside cleaning them or something, and there were 4 helicopters, what looked to be apache type craft circling above in what appeared to be some kind of mock combat flyover...

But then as I drove around the joint, there were these other bozos out playing soccer in civilian clothing.. I mean it looked like a Japanese high school or something... 8O

The antenna arrays here in Kanangawa are barely covered with any guards which means those missiles and helicopters would be flying blind. SHEESH!

Now Kyodo Press is saying reporting it from VP Dick....

N. Korea nukes could prompt Japan no nuke rethink
Kyodo (via Yahoo) Monday March 17, 1:04 PM
U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney said Sunday that North Korea's development of nuclear weapons and the means to deliver them could prompt Japan to reconsider whether to become a nuclear power itself.

What did you expect from one of the ChickenHawks(R)? But once the Occupation ended, it's completely up to the Japanese to enforce their own laws, including constitutional articles.

It wouldnt take much to whip the Japanese into a frenzy.

Problem is, there aren't that many young people to begin with.

By the way, there was a commercial on TV here in the U.S. I saw.

It was from Japan and how the Japanese are going to do their part. I was half asleep and had my glasses off, but I was pretty surprised.

If I see it again, I'll tell you.

BTW, Where the heck is Dick Cheney. Has he been secluded all this time?

I mean, I here more from Colin Powell than from the VP. It's like Powell himself is the actual VP. Cause Cheney appears non-existent
I will not abide ignorant intolerance just for the sake of getting along.

I thought that the Japanese Supreme Court had interpreted Paragraph 2 to mean that military forces will never be maintained for aggressive purposes only? They could still maintain one as long as they were not using it to commence attacks.

Besides as soon as the first missile hits, that Constitution is going to get amended faster than you can say nukuleer fall-out.
