This video shows rare footage of a frilled shark in shallow water. Frilled sharks are usually found at depths of around 2,000 feet. The weak shark shown here died soon after this video was shot. It was filmed off the coast of Japan.

Died, shimied! The camera men all had sashimi and are now bragging to their pubmates that they are the only ones to ever have million year old sushi!

Rarely seen 'living fossil' shark caught off Tokyo Wed Feb 7, 12:22 PM ET

A goblin shark -- a rarely seen species often called a "living fossil" -- was caught alive in Tokyo Bay but died after being put on display, an aquarium said.

The grey, long-nosed shark was caught in fishermen's nets around 150 to 200 metres (500 to 650 feet) deep. It was discovered by officials of the Tokyo Sea Life Park when they took a boat with local fishermen on January 25.

"We were able to bring it to the aquarium alive and show it to the public," said an official at the park.

But the shark died on the morning of January 27.

"Dead goblin sharks are caught from time to time, but it is rarely seen alive. We were able to document the way the shark swims. After it died, we dissected the specimen for further studies," he said.

The shark was about 1.3 metres long.

Resembling pre-historic sharks, goblin sharks live on deep sea bottoms. Little is known about their lives.

WTF? Did they accidentally kill a very rare creature just so they could show it off in an aquarium?
Goblin Shark
http://www.greengoblin.com/internal/corner/shark.html
(Mitsukurina owstoni)
The Japanese fishermen who caught the first specimen of Mitsukurina in the "Black Current" off Yokohama called it tenguzame, which means "goblin shark." This has become its common name, although very few people besides ichthyologists and shark-book authors ever get a chance to use it. The shark is extremely rare, found only in deep water off Japan, South Africa, perhaps off Portugal, and, in one strange instance, in the Indian Ocean, cable malfunction necessitated the raising of the cable, and an awl-like shark's tooth was found embedded in the wire covering. The cable had been at 750 fathoms, and the tooth belonged to a goblin shark...more....
