Fucked gaijin wins Tokyo Marathon

Postby Taro Toporific » Sun Feb 18, 2007 11:31 am

Some African fucked gaijin won the Tokyo Marathon moments ago. He speaks Japanese well, too well, because he said his name only in katakana, "JANGA" or something.

UPDATE:
The Kenyan winner's name is Daniel Njenga.

Njenga wins revamped Tokyo Marathon
Mainichi, Feb 18, 2007---Daniel Njenga of Kenya won the Tokyo Marathon on Sunday, navigating a revamped course in steady rain and chilly temperatures. Njenga pulled away from the pack at the 25-kilometer mark and crossed the finish line in 2 hours, 09 minutes and 45 seconds....

It would have been cool if he had refused to shake Blinky's hand. To me, anyway.

I'm guess he's living on a sports scholarship and doesn't want to bite the hand. Did you notice that Gov Blinky's son was being a lot more friendly than the Gov. to the Mr. "JANGA"?

Maybe Blinky had to muster up all his family's acting skills to pretend to be civil to a potentially riotin' thievin' and generally no-good gaijin.

Njenga ready to burn on new Tokyo Marathon course

Ken Marantz / Daily Yomiuri (Feb. 16, 2007)
A year ago, a fever forced Daniel Njenga to pull out of the Tokyo International Marathon on the day of the race.
On Sunday, Njenga will be a hot favorite to win the renamed Tokyo Marathon, which features a new course and a open field of 30,000 participants that brings it in line with the great marathons of the world.
"I've trained well, so I'm feeling good and I'm hoping on Sunday I'm going to do well," Njenga said at a press conference in Tokyo on Thursday.
Njenga, a Japan-based Kenyan who won the Tokyo race in 2004, is among a handful of invited elite runners who will vie for the title in the historic race, which will start at the Tokyo Metropolitan Government building and finish at Tokyo Big Sight at Ariake.
While the new course incorporates some of Tokyo's most famous sites, passing by Tokyo Tower and Nijubashi before heading through Ginza and Asakusa, it also eliminates the grueling make-or-break hill at the 37-kilometer mark.
But, warned Njenga, runners who regard the course as flat do so at their own peril.
"I checked it out 10 days ago and, while everyone thinks it's flat, there are a few uphills near the end," he said. "You can't take it lightly."
The 30-year-old Njenga is coming off a strong run for Yakult in the New Year intercorporate ekiden, in which he passed 11 runners during the second leg.
"After the New Year ekiden I did several 40-K runs and I'm ready," Njenga said.
Njenga, will be running his 14th career marathon. His personal best of 2 hours 6 minutes 16 seconds came in placing second in the 2002 Chicago Marathon, where he was also runnerup in 2004 and 2006.
Njenga, who has yet to represent Kenya at a global meet, will be looking to impress selectors for this summer's world championships in Osaka as he takes on compatriot Sammy Korir, who won in Rotterdam and finished third in Tokyo last year.....

I'm marginally surprised that there isn't at least one group bitching about a Kenyan running a marathon in Japan against what I figure would be largely Asian competition (or is it a primarily international deal like the New York marathon?)...

Just happened to notice an article in today's on-line Japan Times that describes Blinky's views of Africans in Tokyo.

And here's Gov Blinky's quote in case the Japan Times takes it off the website:
[INDENT]
'Africans in Japan' . . . not from the quill of Ishihara, thank God
The Japan Times, Sunday, Feb. 18, 2007, by PHILIP BRASOR
Last week, The Japan Times ran a Bloomberg interview with Shintaro Ishihara in which the proudly provocative Tokyo governor followed up his contention that foreigners were behind the city's rising crime rate. He challenged his interviewers to go to Roppongi and see for themselves. "Africans -- and I don't mean African-Americans -- who don't speak English are there doing who knows what," he said.
You expect such careless bluster from Ishihara, but his statement deserves scrutiny. One explanation for the governor's popularity is the way he is seen to reflect what his supporters think is common sense. What are non-American black people doing in Japan? It must be something bad. ...more....

Japanese runner Hitomi Niiya crosses the finish line to be the female winner of the Tokyo Marathon 2007 (despite being pigeon-toed).

Jeez Taro -- toe-inward gait is a 'trained' behavior to reduce stress related injuries and reduce 'wobble', especially for female runners. Factor this into a marathon and you can shave seconds, if not minutes from your time. She's not pigeon toed, she's just very well trained.
See you in PyonPyang!

I hate people who think all Africans are being helped or are on some kind of aid or whatever. Kenyan marathon runners make alot of money. Infact Japanese companies come to Kenya and hunt for potential stars to groom them so as to market their companies through them.
