forwarding ports with Hikari / B-Flets

Postby shochu » Sun Feb 18, 2007 2:59 pm

Has anyone done this with a Hikari Fibre optic connection?
It was easy to do with ADSL and a NEC modem but now that I upgraded I am having trouble.
Specifically I cant access my routers configuration page.
Any tips would be appreciated.
Thanks.

The modem is a VDSL [N] A100 router from NTT

Can't access the router page by entering http://192.168.1.1 in the location bar of your browser?

Or rather http://192.168.0.1

1) Check your PC (or MAC) IP configuration to make sure it's set to DHCP (auto address)

2) Then check your default gateway IP address - this will generally be the address of your router.

3) Access that IP address in a web browser (http://192.xxx.xxx.xxx) typically.

4) Most routers have the password as blank when shipped. If you don't know the password, or the provider won't give it to you, then re-init the router and follow the regular setup instructions provided.

5) Most home hikari fiber connections are pppoe - so they should have given you a pppoe username and password. If it's a business provisioning (like USEN) then the routable addresses are available directly - no pppoe connection is req'd. And you can just configure your router however you want.

6) In some cases your fiber provisioning will be different than your actual ISP. Remember - your internet connectivity comes from the ISP portion. So you could have BFlets basic, for example provided by NTT and then Sony as your ISP provider. NTT won't know anything about your internet connectivity - they just manage your fiber and CO.
See you in PyonPyang!

thanks for the replies Oyajikun had the ticket - pluging your default gateway 192.168.x.x etc in your url bar works on a ADSL modems but not with Hikari.

the https://ctu.fletsnet.com/ site is nthe one you have to configure, someone else elsewhere also pointed me in this direction.

AO, wow! I'm not sure how you got shochu's IP address, but I clicked on that link, and I couldn't believe what I saw! It logged me right into shochu's ADSL router. There wasn't even a password! I decided to teach him a lesson about Internet security, so I opened up all his ports, disabled security on his wireless connection, and port-forwarded all outgoing connections to Debito's home page. That'll learn him.

Ok When you were on FLET'S ADSL you probably had an NEC Aterm modem/router combo unit..
But when you go to B-FLET's, all NTT gives you is a VDSL adapter or an ONU depending on if you got a Mansion Type line or a Hyper Family type line. It's not a router so you CAN'T log in to it.

Gonna have to buy your own router or you can call NTT's English line at 0120-364-463 and ask if you can rent a router from them. But I'd just get an English language Linksys or something since it's nice to be able to understand everything clearly. Every router will support PPPoE. Hell you can even use a Mac Airport if you want.
Well... yeah but.. I mean.. that's just like.. your opinion man!

follow up post - I downloaded an XP update that must have had a fix for UPnP mapping as I was suddenly able to map ports with UPnP afterwards when I restarted the computer. So my problem was solved and I didnt have to fiddle with the router settings.
