[/floatl]Liberal Democratic Party members of Tokyo's Shinagawa Ward Assembly have attached sales receipts for comics, detective novels and even pornography to their funding reports for political research expenses, according to information disclosed by the assembly.
Although the receipts do not show the titles of the books and publications purchased, the International Standard Book Number (ISBN) stated on them made it possible to identify the specific books and magazines.
The LDP members admitted that they had spent part of the funds on inappropriate books and are examining past funding reports to return the funds spent on such materials.
The assembly does not require its members to provide the titles of publications purchased in their funding reports, but receipts printed out by major bookstores usually include the ISBN for each item purchased.
