music concerts in japan

Postby akatsuka » Fri Mar 02, 2007 6:44 am

Hi, Im going to Japan in August for a month and a bit and would really like to see a live concert out there. As I'm in Japan, I'd prefer not to see a western band (i can see them anytime at home..!) I'd like to see a Japanese band. I've got a few bands/singers in mind but dont know where to look to see who is playing in the tokyo area in august time.

Does anyone recommend any websites?

I've looked at Metropolis, but they seem to only go about a month in advance.

Also, how much can a ticket for a live concert in tokyo range from~to?

thanks!

It's still a little bit too early for a full schedule to be up for August. The complete line-up at Summer Sonic hasn't been announced yet and is always subject to change anyway. If you can navigate around in Japanese then one of the most comprehensive resources is Pia. Tickets for August gigs will usually be on sale from around June. Whether you need to get in early or not depends on what kind of music you are interested in. That caveat also applies to ticket prices. Ayumi Hamasaki tickets average about 8,000 yen while you can see a bill of indie bands for around 3,000 yen. Most other Japanese acts are somewhere in between. Bear in mind that some venues separately require you to buy a 500 yen drink ticket at the door.

So you'll be in Tokyo, right? I was just there for work in January; I spent most of my free nights hanging out in Tokyo rock clubs. I found a lot of cool bands that way.

Try this site for club locations:

tokyogigguide.com

Just go a random rock club; they're much nicer than what is found in the States (don't know how they compare to clubs in London, though). Just be prepared to pay 2,500-3,000 yen to see a bunch of indie bands.
