Operation "No Outcome"???

Postby Taro Toporific » Thu Mar 20, 2003 12:46 pm

SO? What is the best name for the war?

"This will not be a campaign of half measures, and we will accept no outcome except victory," Bush in his address said.

American Military Operation Name Generating Device
Five Randomly Generated American Military Operation Names
1. Operation Touchy Free Market
2. Operation Hungry Cyclone
3. Operation Strong Jack Russell Terrier
4. Operation Blind Frenzy
5. Operation Ocean Caliph
Computers suggest names we give wars
Washington Post / /September 22, 2001
Giving nicknames to operational thrusts is a relatively new pursuit in the history of warfare, going back to the middle of the 20th century.

:? Kind of an understatement. I don't think I'll be singing, "And I'm Proud To Be an American" during this Gulf War. The first one was understandable and justifiable. This one is bullshit.

How about "Operation Blue Spoon"?

A war by any other name would still be a 'blue spoon?'
Naming military operations is almost as difficult as fighting them

SCRIPPS HOWARD / Thursday, January 30, 2003 - 2:54:30 AM PST

If a name has been picked for a new Persian Gulf war, the Pentagon isn't saying. But you can be sure that, if a U.S. war indeed comes, it will not be named "Operation Blue Spoon" or any similar head-scratcher.

How about 'Operation CODE NAME'?

The Virginian-Pilot / September 26, 2001
...Originally, military operations were given code names because commanders did not want the enemy to know what they were talking about. Perhaps the most cryptic was one code-named ``Code Name.''

How about operation I'm in shock there is no awe

Postby canman » Fri Mar 21, 2003 3:27 pm

If I hear another reporter talk about "Shock and awe" I'm going to throw a slipper at the TV. I heard one reporter from CNBC say the media is almost disappointed that there haven't been any fireworks to show the public. Aaron Brown of CNN, had to keep apologizing that the static picture they were showing had no battle scenes. I guess there was no "entertainment value".
This is going to be a long war, even if it lasts only a week with the amount of media coverage its getting, God help us all.

The first time I heard of "Shock and Awe", I was turned away from the TV typing something here. I was thinking "Shaukenha", I thought it was some word in Arabic until I saw it typed up on the screen.

I am sick of this "continous coverage".

My grandmother has fox news channel on all day and because she is hard of hearing she has it turned up so I can't go anywhere in the house without hearing it.

I had to take a walk just to preserve my sanity.
