A curry that was boiled up with a rat in the pot has been served to 18 people at a noodle stand at JR Shin-Koiwa Station in Tokyo, the operator of the stand said.

Nippon Restaurant Enterprise Co. (NRE), the operator of the noodle stand, has apologized for the incident. "We offer our apologies and will return the money to customers who contact us," a company spokesman said. Nobody who ate at the stand has so far complained about any health problems.

Between 6:15 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, curry and rice and curry noodles were served to 18 customers at Ajisai Chaya noodle stand at JR Shin-Koiwa Station in Katsushika-ku, Tokyo, NRE officials said.

Just thinking of JR food stands tends to send one running for the loo. The customers should consider themselves lucky, as aid rat could only have improved the taste!

Restaurant cooked curry in pot containing rodent

A soba and udon noodle restaurant at JR Shin-Koiwa Station in Katsushika Ward, Tokyo, sold curry cooked in a pot that was later found to have contained a mouse, it was learned Tuesday.

The restaurant suspended operations shortly after the incident was discovered, saying the measure would continue until sanitary control was fully secured, according to Nippon Restaurant Enterprise Co., which runs the restaurant.

According to the company, the manager of the Ajisai-Dyaya Shin-Koiwa restaurant branch started cooking curry using a pot measuring 20 centimeters across and 25 centimeters deep, at about 6 a.m. Tuesday. She discovered the mouse, which was about eight centimeters long, after having sold 18 meals served from the pot--including curry noodles and curry rice--between 6:15 a.m. and 8:30 a.m.

Kind of early for eighteen people to be eating curry, don't you think? I smell a rat.
