Abe rewriting forced suicide by imperial army in Okinawa.

Postby TFG » Sat Mar 31, 2007 8:56 pm

The ministry of education has just recommended history books for high schools concerning the battle of Okinawa have all reference to Okinawa's civilians being forced to commit suicide by the imperial Japanese army removed, even though survivors report the Japanese Imperial Army giving grenades to civilian women and children and ordering them to commit suicide.

So, now we are seeing that history is being rewritten by Abe to cleanse the stigma of the Japanese Imperial Army from history and this time Abe is doing it at the expense of the people of Okinawa and the memories of their loved ones forced to kill themselves by the Japanese Imperial Army.

Abe cited a court case that may become a new theory, where a former imperial army member has made a court claim that forced suicides were not ordered by the imperial army.

How the hell can a maybe budding theory by one individual plaintiff justify changing history books?

Is the new theory that the forced suicides were not ordered by the Imperial Army, but instead by the comfort women?

It's one thing for Aso and Abe to have dumb and/or racist ideas but it's surprising that they would actually say these things. It's like they don't think about how people will react to what they say. Or maybe they are thinking about how they will be heard.
I just don't get it...

S Korea informs Japan that the history problem concerning comfort women will cause problems in the 6 party talks.

Mmmmmm

This has got me thinking....Does Japan really want to bring closure to the abducted Japanese nationals? Especially as most of them are probably dead.
Abe would not be so popular with the remains of the kidnapped being returned and being identified through DNA tests the nationalism machine would no longer be as effective.
Is this why such comments are being made, to protect Abe's crumbling kingdom?

This has got nothing to do with denial. It's revisionism at its best.

Asahi: Nobel laureate Oe protests textbook changes
Kenzaburo Oe and his publisher on Wednesday protested education ministry screenings of draft textbooks that have removed the Japanese military's involvement in civilian mass suicides during the Battle of Okinawa... Ministry officials cited an ongoing lawsuit by a soldier and the family of another who claim the two were falsely described in Iwanami publications, including Oe's book, as ordering mass suicides in Okinawa's Kerama islands. The ministry said the surviving soldier denied in court that he had ordered people to commit suicide. Oe's book "Okinawa Note" contains details about the military's role...more...
