"Dojinshi" homoerotic boy sex written for ladies

Postby Taro Toporific » Sun Mar 23, 2003 12:32 am

I don't fully get this but I know plenty of seeming normal, hetrosexual, 20-something ladies who read it...

DOJINSHI - - By the people, for the people
Japan Times / Sunday March 23
...while males are the main consumers of commercial manga, whereas females -- particularly ones in their mid-20s -- dominate the market for dojinshi.
And for anyone who still views Japanese women as shrinking violets, it may come as a surprise that, just like men, these women want to see lots (and lots and lots) of sex on the pages of their dojinshi.
To be precise, homoerotic sex between teenage boys. But why just that variety?

I watched a documentary on manga about a year ago and one of the subjects mentioned was the fact that these homoerotic manga were popular with young women and housewives..

The reasons suggested was that it was a bit naughty and so different from the readers own (dull?) lives and experiences that it was akin to pure escapism. A bit like people looking in on others sexy but sordid lives through a window without them knowing.. peeping tomasinas.. Women are not "afraid" of homeosexual the same way that heterosexual men are.. but also women tend not to be interested in the often violent porn or boring sport tales that is shown in male targeted manga.

It was a good documentary which was based on the research that an American guy (I think) did for his PhD thesis.

My favorite "bender" afternoon to take the folks from Peoria on is the 500-800yen "Makumi" seats at Kabuki-za followed by cheap "tachi-mi"stand-and-watch seats at Takarakuza.:P

In between shows, it fun to make them eat eel bento or my favorite gross-out Hansuke, grilled eel heads.

Actually, my, er, anatomy was used as a model for this form of dojinshi by several manga-ka in order to impart authenticity and believability whenever it became necessary to draw the human form. Whenever they wanted to depict two men in a particular frame of the manga, they just duplicated the written portrayal of my anatomy in order to draw the other party.

Believe me, it was difficult to pass their length and girth tests. I also had to endure several hours of measurement and mould casting--which was exacerbated by the fact that they underestimated the amount of plaster of paris needed, and left me waiting there while they ran to the store to get another pound or so. :P
