I can't understand the horror at seeing sushi served with yakitori. Certainly, you wouldn't get yakitori in a sushi bar in Japan but there are plenty of izakaya and robata that offer sushi on the menu along with a few sticks.

The piece is right those so-called japanese restaurant serves shit, the thing is, everybody knows it, and anybody with a sense of taste don't go there.
It's like saying japanese bakeries make good bread, of course they don't, and only people with no understanding of what bread is supposed to be go there.
Now, there are good j-restaurant in Paris but it's more expensive and less common than the shitty places exactly like bakeries in japan.

Any Japanese person I've ever talked with about bread believes that Japanese bread is the best because it's so soft.

What is this obsession with softness?

Have you seen Japanese teeth?

But seriously - a culture of rice eating and a love of subtle texture makes Japanese bread eaters err on the side of softness in my opinion. Personally, I love the harder stuff and there is a brillian bakery down the road who put together a neat, chewy sourdough, wholemeal campagne! So there!

Sigh, I can hardly watch that video.

All I can think of is what Japanese do to "Western" and just about any other cuisine in order to make it palatable for Japanese...

Talk about massive lack of self reflexivity!

Apparently so, but the major question is, are you?
