SOKA GAKKAI

Postby akatsuka » Sat Apr 21, 2007 7:45 pm

After watching a recent episode of Ururun, I notice that the show's presenters have been taken over by Masami Hisamoto and another unknown guy. It made me wonder about soka-gakkai loyal staff and presenters. Where the old presenters 'got rid of' in favour for soka gakkai believers? Note the use of the 'Renaissance' in the title now, which indicates Soka-Gakkai loyalty. One of the new presenters, Masami Hisamoto, is a fully fledged Gakkai trooper.

Do any of you have an opinion on the domination of Soka Gakkai in the entertainment world in Japan? Apparantely this has been growing now for some years.

This topic seems to be more or less taboo in Japan, and journalists do not cover it for fear of angering powerful Soka Gakkai figures working in media.

Upon researching, I found this comment
"I find it absolutely fascinating how the Gakkai's aims are known amongst the Japanese population to be entirely political, and that one joins them if one needs a 'leg up' in the entertainment world, yet no one in Japan talks about this. The International version seems to be more faith based."

How powerful is this cult? I hadnt heard of them before, but thats probably due to censorship.

I like to watch the anti-Gakkai people. They're always true nutcases like Aum Shinrikyo or Tenrikyo.

You Tube has a few clips relating to Soka Gakkai. A few months ago, though, there were a lot more. In particular, I remember Masami Hisamoto speaking about her love for Ikeda and there was film of her and Rie Shibata crying with happiness when they got to meet him. This was all part of an official SG promotional film shown to members. She also appeared on a panel discussing ways to bring new converts to the group.

These were all official films but clearly You Tube was asked to remove them. Soka Gakkai gains a good deal from its celebrity members and they in turn get a loyal fanbase who will vote for them in TV polls and buy their cds, books and DVDs. However, it wouldn't be good for their career if the general public saw just how fervent they are.

There are ALOT of members here in Edogawa-ku.

In my immediate neighborhood only myself, my wife and one other family are not members out of the 20 or so households immediately around us.

We and the other household are sort of excluded from neighborhood/community events, and more or less only get informed when there is some other "community" project or whatever which requires the collection of money.

The head obaasan in the neighborhood has tried inviting us to little gatherings where some official of the party/religion is giving a talk several times, but neither my wife or myself are interested, so my wife ended up telling them that we couldn't participate because my (implied to be Christian) religion forbids it 8O

Now the entire neighborhood thinks I am some ultra conservitive christian...

Considering that I'm not (I'm not even Christian) and that it has only served to alienate us from our neighbors even more it is a bad thing.

No. Being ultra consertive or a Christian has not alienated us.

It's being a dumb idiot president and not respecting the international community. that has served to alienate us.

If they are leaving you alone, you might be better off. The upper echelons of Gakkai have issued orders in recent years, which have somewhat toned down their most distrubing "recruiting" practices and tactics. This was done because of an alarming amount bad publicity of cases bordering on intimidation that occurred in those days. But, some can still be pretty zealous. But, having said that, as everyone well knows, the urusai clowns pounding on your front door to recruit you for their religion and to thus save your life are certainly not all Buddhists!

Though I'm loathe to admit it, I am of the opinion that Takechanpoo and his ilk balance the status quo in this case.
