Fuji TV (who owns FNN) ran another version of that story that while apparently covering most of the same points in that youtube link, the Fuji TV piece mostly focused on how shitty the characters looked, how unprofessional the characters actors were (ie, walking around with their head's off), and while grumbling about Disney's copyright violations, it seemed to take great umbrage at the Hello Kitty copyright violation.

Haha! I've been there. It's on the way north out of town. Of course it's run by the PLA which can pretty much do as they please when it comes to 'copyright' control. I wouldn't be surprised of the government makes a nice offer to Disney themselves to buy it under license. China is not about copyright piracy or theft - right now its all about brand legitimization. Once you've saturated the masses with the 'important brands' fake or otherwise, the next step will be in marketing and selling the real deal. Nobody wants to be caught with a cheap fake. Look at Japan - same exact thing happened from 1950 - 1980's. Everything out of Japan was considered cheap and fake until only the last 20 yrs or so.

Many children in China will grow up never being able to go to the real Disneyland in their lives. I don't really approve the fake licensed materials but most of China live in the piss poor below-poverty level. Maybe this deceitful disneyland gimmick can make these kids' dreams come true.

There is nothing wrong with not being able to go Disneyland. I think children who has never been to Disneyland will not dream of going there in the first place. And even if there are those who really dream of going, then they have to do something to achieve their dream, that is life. These kids who has gone to the China faked Disneyland will grow up knowing they had gone to a lousy copy cat land anyway.

When I went my chinese friends couldnt understand why I'd go to such a shoddy and silly place, When I explained about the resemblance to Disneyland, they just laughed it off as yet another 'f*d gaijin' excursion.
