SPEEDWAY, Ind. (WISH) - The Indianapolis Motor Speedway roared to life at 8 a.m. Saturday morning as drivers took to the track in search of making up track time lost to the rain.
Just before 9 a.m., rookie Takuma Sato slammed into the wall coming out of turn two. His car slid down the track until it came to a stop halfway down the back stretch. He was awake and alert when he was transported via ambulance to Methodist Hospital for further examination of "tenderness" in his back.
Sato is the third driver from KV Racing Technology to hit the wall this week. Mario Moraes, of Brazil, and E.J. Viso, of Venezuela, both crashed Tuesday.
