North Korea Pulls Out of Border Talks With U.S.-Led Panel

North Korea said today that it would no longer send liaison officers for routine border talks with the United States-led United Nations agency that monitors the armistice that ended the Korean War.

According to the Korea Central News Agency in Pyongyang, North Korea said, "It is meaningless to sit together with the U.S. forces side to discuss any issue as long as it remains arrogant."

"The satellites will be sent into orbit on Friday. Their primary aim will be to spy on North Korean missile sites and nuclear facilities. Pyongyang is furious, and is warning of grave consequences if Japan proceeds with the launch. 'Japan will not have its security guaranteed but face self-destruction,' the Korean central news agency warned in a statement. Officials in Tokyo are worried North Korea will fire a ballistic missile in protest. A destroyer with special radar systems has been dispatched to the sea between Japan and the Korean peninsular to keep watch on the communist country."
