Tokyo Tubing

Postby DrP » Sun May 20, 2007 9:51 pm

Join us this year for the 3rd annual Tokyo Tubing club. This is as redneck as it gets! First 'float' of the year will be the Tama starting from an easy Futataka Tamagawa location and testing the 'river' for a leisurely 40-60min float downstream.

At the bridge - we'll set up BBQ, Gumbo and refreshments. Hopefully we'll hit a few more floats at different places this year.

P.S. I found a rally preparation shop over near Shirokanedai that has some killer tubes off their support vehicles.

P.P.S. If you're coming over from the US please bring some 10.00x22 Goodyear tubes - as they are the only ones which will stand up to the rigors of a full season. Seems the Bridgestones are far too subject to hazardous waste deterioriation.

Cool - have been tubing before but never with a club. have my own tubes - not the goodyear ones but they are pretty tough.

What other kit do you need? I find that water shoes help as the rocks on the river at Mt Mitake are pretty sharp. My mother wants me to wear a helmet as she is worried about me smashing on rocks.

Time/place?

The water shoes are a must! I usually pick up a few pairs at DonKey just to be on the safe side. Other than that - just sunscreen and something to float your beeer along with you.. The first float we do is just at the Tamagawa - so it's very slow and bizarrely serene. I can't believe how few people actually float that river! I checked the water with a Tokyu Hands water test kit - it <appeared> to be clean enough and we've never gotten any nasties from it -- other than the red blotchy burns which seemed to go away after cauterization and a few days of steroid therapy.

Looking at the first or second weekend in June to start. I like to do this at least once a month. Historically it should be the last weekend of each month. Gives us 3 or 4 nice runs.
