Aibo maker slams war robots
AFP /14:11 AEST Fri 28 Mar 2003 - The Japanese inventor of Sony's Aibo pet robot says humanoid robots should not be used in conflict situations, such as the war in Iraq, to harm people.
"Technologically, it is still very difficult to realise, to have robots fighting each other but if they are connected to the internet without security measures, a hacker or a bad guy could control them easily and harm people," Masahiro Fujita, who also helped develop Sony's SDR-4X II humanoid robot, told a press conference.

Latest Japanese robot reacts to touch
Plastic/silicon "skin" includes 48 sensors
INQUIRER / Wednesday 26 March 2003, 08:38
THE LATEST ROBOT under development by the Intelligent Robotics and Communication Laboratory reacts to touch and will even say "ouch" if you hug it too tightly, nikkei.net reports today.
The Lab, which is part of the Advanced Telecomms Research Institute, also claims that Robovie-2 Ace responds to caresses and virtually swoons if you treat it well, the report adds.

I think there should be some protocol built into robots internally that cannot be modified without destroying it, to stop the robots from killing anything, even each other..
I mean, there should be failsafes built in, at least 2, if not 5 or 10, that would stop it from doing anything in terms of harm to any creature.

Just my opinion, and I think this is not too far away from where robots can become very dangerous.

Good Idea BB. But Isaac Asimov already thought of this]The Three Laws of Robotics are:[/url]

1. A robot may not injure a human being, or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
2. A robot must obey the orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.
I will not abide ignorant intolerance just for the sake of getting along.
