I just stumbled onto YouTube NAVI.. Probably the easiest way to search, preview, view, download, and watch YouTube clips.. Enjoy!

It's a cool search tool and it does save the Flash video to an unmarked "get_video" file. However, to use that "get_video" file you have to rename the file to "some_name.flv" which is a binary file. Then, you have use some other tool to view "some_name.flv" or convert it to real movie format like avi, mov, or MPEG4.

I prefer the transcoder, " Online FLV Converter," that lets you download google videos direct to your computer. This service allows you convert a Flash Video / FLV file (YouTube's movie format, etc) to MPEG4, AVI, MOV, MP4, MP3, or 3GP file using some super-whoopie, "compressed domain transcoder technology."

This is so lo-fi it feels to me just like the old days when I recorded music off the radio for my own cassette mix tapes.

Yeah, that part needs to be fine-tuned a bit. I thought it was just a Mac thing..

Yeah, that's the best way to work with 'crap in, crap out' Flash technology.. Although, I was impressed with the results..

It's a little easier to get the 'press play, then press play-record' sequence timed, though. ;)

I think someone posted this before, but blinkx is an, um.. 'interesting' way to watch online video. Make the the filter is 'OFF'. ;)

Here's a 'gaijin' search:
http://www.blinkx.com/wall?query=gaijin&safefilter=off

Happy snail trails!..

Not sure where or if this should be posted, but I also found PageBull sort of fun]sample[/URL])

Both of those look interesting. YouTube has sparked a new wave of video disseminating methods. There are new sites, using YT clips for their content, popping up all the time. Although, the quality is still YT crap..

Micky.tv is another YT search engine, but it enables you to download MP4, Docomo, AU, and MP3 versions of the videos, using TubeFire..

Rimo.tv is a new twist; you can post comments right on the video itself.. Mystery Science Theater goes global!

Example:

(for my own reference..)

I use a program called Orbit Rich Media Downloader. Actually I use a program included in its toolset called Grab++ which monitors your web broswer and automatically grabs the direct address for any media (not just flvs, but also wmvs or the wmvs that windows streaming points to etc.) from any site and you can then go through and click them to save them to your pc. Really useful.

Oh, also, free:
http://www.orbitdownloader.com/index.htm

If anyone is interested. Older versions had adware, current versions don't (I use it on my main PC). Really useful as it lets you download from sites other than Youtube, and not just media-hosting sites but even places like the discovery channel website, sci-fi channel website etc.

;)
