Hikari Fiber Thingy

Hey im quite new to this thing called "fast connection". The best i had in the UK was about as fast as walking to the place and getting your file by hand.
Anyway i got this DTI 100MB connection and its cool and all but i cant help but wonder...why dont i need a router? i just pluged it into the wall from my PC and i got porn coming out my ears.

I would imagine that you have a 100Mb connection, not MB. The difference is a factor of 8.

ADSL / Fibre / Cable do not "need" routers as such, you can plug your PC directly into the box from the Telco/Cable Co. However without a router you can not easily share the connection between two or more PCs and you also have very little security. You can get cheap but decent routers for 5000yen -- definitely worth the cost.

will i lose any of the speed going through a router?

Actually, you will lose the speed slightly, or at least I would notice the ping loss when playing online FPS games but the security benefits outweigh it.
