Question for the K'tai Goddess.

Postby CrankyBastard » Tue Jun 26, 2007 10:27 pm

I've been using a TU-Ka 'jiji' phone for a couple of years and it's all I need.
Now they tell me that the service will come to an end and that I have to sign up with something else by next March.:(
Do you know if any of the carriers plan to introduce a similar type phone by next year?
All I need is a simple mobile, no display, no memory, no camera, no net access. Just a robust phone with big buttons, decent volume and long battery life.
Cheers.

All the carriers have models that are simple with big buttons for people who have trouble with small keys and small displays - eg elderly, visually impared etc. Am not familiar with the TU-ka jiji service but I think they are just wanting to phase out some of the networks that are not used much anymore.

Just cruise around the websites for the various carriers and see what sort of handsets they have. Here is the site for DoCoMo's easy phones or "raku-raku" phones. Lots to choose from.

[floatl]Image[/floatl]Check this one out!!. It is a simple phone but works off the FOMA network. So while the antenna is modern and top of the line the functions are simple to use. I have a FOMA and have taken it ALL over the country and I seem to get better coverage than friends with softbank and/or EZWeb. However, I can only get signal in my apartment if I am standing by a window so go figure.

Perhaps if you are close to a place that has a few large electronic stores, drop in and look at the range of phones and chat to the staff there. They will all have simple phones so just talk to them about what is the best contract and carrier for you (some rural areas have better coverage than others across the different carriers). I have the feeling you are in the country somewhere or am I mistaken?

<puts tongue firmly in cheek>
You could get one of the kids models with the GPS tracking built in so if you start to wander off, your family will be able to find you..

Thanks GG, the RakuRaku looks something like what I have now.
I'm in Yokohama, so I'll pop over to Yodobashi Camera and check it out.
Thanks again.

James, I don't need a complicated little machine like the one that young dude is holding!!!

GuyJean, there's no point in me having a display when I can't find my glasses in time to read it before the damn thing shuts down or goes to dark to read anyway. (Is it any wonder I'm called a CrankyBastard?) :D

Just ask to see the range of "Simple phones". They don't advertise them so much as they are not new and sexy with all the bells and whistles but they still all have them. Grab the books from each of the carriers that have a full list of all models.

Thanks again GG.
BTW, I did a radio commercial for FOMA a year or so ago.
Perhaps you heard me, I was the foreigner (clergyman) voice on the CM.
