Free Akihabara Tours

Every Saturday from July 7th through January 19th of next year, the Tourism Industry Association of Japan will conduct free tours of Akihabara. The English site says the tours will be in English but they also have Chinese and Korean versions pages so other options might be available.

New Discovery Of Akihabara

Tours kick off at 1:00pm and last for around 2 hours. Here's the schedule:

Radio Kaikan
The holy place for anime and manga lovers. The building is full of the latest pop culture items, and that Kotobukiya located on the 1st floor, has large variety of figures, as well as Ghibli characters.

Electric Town / Shopping District
Electric town Exit is most concentrated area of duty free shops in Akihabara. ( Akky, Ishimaru, Eisan, Onoden, Takarada Musen, Yamamoto Musen, Laox) There is a 100yen shop on the B1 of Takarada Musen building.

Tsukumo Robot Kingdom
Cross the Chuo Street and walk through Radio Department which exists a lot of parts shops still has an old atomosphere of the town. Visit Tsukumo Robot Kingdom, you can enjoy watching the robot operating whose technology is cutting edge of Akihabara

Overseas model products
At a duty free shop, instruct the different overseas and domestic models. (warranty, manuals, functions )

Knowledge Field at UDX building
The tour continues to the UDX building of Akihabara Cross Field, the new landmark of the town, symbol of high-tech and pop culture. Visit the Institute of Creative Industries and Culture,state-of-the-art technology lab for neo-futuristic experience. Also Tokyo Food Theater 5+1 is new style restaurant, equipped digital recipes. Finally the tour arrives at Tokyo Anime Center where you can find the original souvenirs only here able to get.

Radio Kaikan (disband)
Fill out a questionnaire and disbands at Radio Kaikan. ( Gift will be given at the end of the tour.)

Wow, these are pretty terrible...zero energy by the host and correct but fairly clunky english...I would imagine that it takes a lot of effort to make the cool things of Akihabara to seem pretty boring, but they spent the time to do it.

Looking at the 3rd video page on youtube, it somehow has a total of negative 2 comments
