Yep, that's about right. A Singapore reader just wrote to me and says it says:

Cats are carnivores. Isn't it dangerous to feed them corn or any other vegetable for that matter?

Feeding fruit and vegetables causes disease in cats

Those quotes seem a little contradictory. They use plant fillers in cat food, but vegetable matter can lead to crystals forming in cat urine and overall sickness.

When I had a cat, I never fed him vegetables - just normal cat food supplemented with real chicken, fish and katsuobushi.

I have found a lot of pussies that are fond of chicken, fish and katsuobushi!

That's not a very good diet for cats, vets say you're not supposed to feed them canned fish exclusively. Cats need taurine, which is added to cat food. Check it out.

She gets dry food as well. I think that has taurine in it.

But she really doesn't like anything else. I prefer tinned food and so does she - should I just get other sorts than Tuna. I always try to get a mixture of Tuna + X in the same tin where X can be other types of fish, chicken and meat to try to give her different tastes. So it is never straight tuna.

No. Just get another cat.

Get one that fits the "data" and graphs.

It's very Darwinian - survival of the fittest (for the graph).

Self-perpetuating science.

How about salmon? Whenever I threw flakes of cooked leftover salmon into his food bowl, my cat would go crazy for it.

Cats are cute...until you realise that if you die in your flat it will start to eat your decomposing body. Probably the face first since it isn't covered by clothes...unless you are a ninja or a member of the KKK or something.

I have fed my girl's cat nothing but Chinese dog food for the last two months and the damn thing loves it! That stuff'd kill a rhino, but her Pershian justs keeps getting bigger, fatter and meaner. I may try some draino in the water bowl, but it'll probably just make the SOB fart louder!

I checked the labels on the dry cat food I feed my little princess. it has loads of taurine. So every day she gets 2 servings of canned food - tuna with something else and also at all times she has dry cat bicuits that she nibbles on throughout the day that has the taurine in it. She seems really healthy.. so it must be OK.

Well it's all good as long as kitty has a primary source of taurine. If they feel deficient, I think cats get more urges to nibble the high-taurine dry food. I think it's "comfort food" to them.

Albacore (white) tuna is tasty for people and cats but high in mercury which is a potent neurotoxin. In Minamata the first signs of mercury poisoning were that cats went crazy, walked crookedly and died. Smaller fish that are lower on the food chain are a healthier choice, so maybe go for fish like salmon or other foods with tuna flavoring?

I supposed that getting kitty to drink a can of Red Bull (for the taurine) every night isn't a good idea.
