Drunkenness Will Get You Raped

Yomiuri: Jail sentence reduced in Kyoto U. rape case
The Osaka High Court sentenced a former Kyoto University student to 4-1/2 years in prison Wednesday for involvement in the gang rape of two women, reducing the sentence handed down by a lower court. Presiding Judge Toshio Shima reduced the 5-1/2-year prison term given by the Kyoto District Court, saying the former student's actions were cruel and selfish and ignored the women's dignity, but that the drunkenness of the victims helped trigger the crime. According to the ruling, Ryo Ikeguchi, 24, and two other former football players at the university raped a drunk female student at a party at the apartment of one of the players between 2 a.m. and 3 a.m. on Dec. 23. Ikeguchi also raped another drunk female student at about 3:40 a.m.

Wow, what is that judge on? Surely, no sane human being could come up with logic like that.

Yes but at least he got some jail-time and not a suspended sentence. So there is some silver lining at least. Still it is dreadful but if nobody speaks out about this then these opinions will remain. I wonder what would happen if it was the daughters or sisters of the guys on the bench...

This is not just a womans issue - it is one for all of us.. imagine if it was your sister.

Can't explain the logic in that, either.

I agree GG that it isn't just a woman's issue.
I wouldn't know where to start with assigning punishment to crime, but perhaps it would make more sense to add more punishment when the victim is weak or defenseless.
Maybe the judge was being wishy-washy and trying to appeal to both the victim and the perpetrator.
It's crazy, anyway.

Not a good example GG. I wouldn't wish my sister on anyone, pissed or stone sober!

But, now that you mentioned it, everyone was drunk or drinking, but they just happened to note that rape#2 occured at 03:40 A.M., not to be confused with 03:39 or 03:41! Now that's some accurate recollection from a bunch of drunks who were supposedly in the process of being either dickers, or dickees, at that given moment of history! Sounds like something might be amiss, here even though the doer is going away for a several year rectal enhancement course.

The guy didn't get a year off his sentence because he was drunk. The judge offered leniency because he decided that the victims bore some responsibility for being gang-raped because they were drunk.

Maybe the judge was drunk too, that would make some sense...

This thread title is all wrong. Drunkeness will get you sexed up, not raped. You can't get raped if you're begging for it. Duh.

so what do we learn? if, avoid raping the ones that are sober?

Anyway, there are are lots of things that call for more attention. The offering roles in porn videos to random girls on the street, chikan (痴漢)you can see/hear on the trains or whereever so many times and the total sex symbolization (not sure if that words exists) of women in Japan. All these things exist since years, everyone knows it, but no big changes. Things like this influence the general image of women in society, and in Japan it's not really an equal/respectable one. Sure, women became more independent, do career, whats true, but doesn't change the fact that many japanese (as well as other) men don't even pay women the minimum respect they should.

Though, personal opinion, I think that many Japanese girls/women don't really attribute to change the situation either. Many victims just do absolutely nothing. (恥ずかしい、怖い、忘れたい、 whatever). I'm going to university here since two years and it's hard to find girls (around in my huge university or wherever I go) who don't set priority on being kawaii 24/7 by showing more legs/breasts (if any) and I don't know what. Many tries to explain that self-respect and respect by others (,acceptance) can be achieved by many other things than trying to look kawaii didn't really seem to be understood.

Well, this all doesn't justify any kind of rape of course. The judge's decision is redicilous. What comes next? "Rape on the beach; 1 year", "Because the victims were wearing bikinis" ...?

[quote="Bedi"]Can't risk a エ]

I got エロ外人 tattooed across my forehead, works wonders. I mean, what girl would not want her guy to be エロ? "Sorry, honey, I want to be a sexless couple like 85% of all Japanese guys who just want to read manga and beat off to pictures of a 2X4 getting slammed into some girl's orifaces."
(I made that % up).
Shit, what girl gets all gooey for a guy like that?
"But, he's a really special person."
Yeah, be honest, if you ain't getting it from your man.....what's his income?

apparently we use the term differently with my japanese friends than you guys. It's not a positive expression. Then lets change the word with something more generally understood: Don't want a 変態外人 image.
