Murder extradition for Japan's most beloved COMEDIAN

Postby Taro Toporific » Fri Mar 07, 2003 1:59 pm

Reminder to self: Don't go to any Fujimori BBQs.

Murder charges against ex-President of Peru
Peru will officially ask the Japanese government to extradite its former President Alberto Fujimori by July.
Peru will send information to the international police organisation Interpol to back its request for his arrest on murder charges for a massacre of 15 people at a barbecue in Lima by an army death squad in 1991...

What! I thought he was still president and things were going swimmingly - man time flies. Is there another Japanese head of state in South America?

Yeah, he became an insta-citizen a few years back. One of my students goes to university with Alberto's son. Let's see what she says when I tell her the news...

Yeah, it's that "insta-citizenship" and FRAULDANTLY-issused Japanese birth certificate make Fujimori a real favorite among all of us F-Gaijin. :?
Please keep us posted what that student of yours that, "goes to university with Alberto's son" has to say.

Japan says plans no action now against Fujimori
DW-World service --09.03.2003 ? 09:00 UTC
The international police agency Interpol has reportedly handed a request to Japan for the arrest of Peru's former president, Alberto Fujimori....Fujimori, who is of Japanese extraction, fled to Japan in November 2000 amid a corruption and bribery scandal, and took Japanese citizenship shortly afterwards. Japan's constitution forbids it from extraditing its citizens. Tokyo has already said it plans to take no action for the moment against Fujimori.

I remember my student, Yumi, being so excited about meeting him (sorry, I forgot his name); but after meeting him, she was rather disappointed.

Obviously the Japanese "Justice" (sic) system doesn't care....

Japan police tight-lipped over Interpol arrest warrant for Fujimori
Fujimori, the son of Japanese emigrants to Peru, went into exile in November 2000 as a major corruption scandal broke out, and resigned the presidency by fax from Tokyo.
Fujimori was granted Japanese citizenship in December 2000 and has sidestepped Peruvian extradition efforts, since Tokyo argues that by law it cannot extradite a national.
The disgraced former president has found love in Japan.
He told a popular magazine last July that he wanted to marry a Japanese executive in her mid-30s, saying "my friends are surprised to see me now and make jokes that I look 10 years younger."
Fujimori met the woman through an acquaintance in March 2002 and was spotted with her at a posh noodle restaurant as well as at Tokyo's Yasukuni Shrine dedicated to Japanese war dead.
"I believe it was destiny that I have met her," Fujimori was quoted in Japanese as telling the weekly magazine, Shukan Shincho.

Alberto 'the Jackel' Fujimori wrote:"my friends are surprised to see me now and make jokes that I look 10 years younger."

Funny, I usually make jokes about him being a human rights criminal...

Who are these "friends", I wonder? People that think he's famous but don't know he's infamous? I guess you can impress people by rubbing elbows with 20th century villains.

Update from the BBC....

Japan 'won't extradite Fujimori'
BBC / Monday, 10 March, 2003, 02:02 GMT
Mr Fujimori is the son of Japanese immigrants to Peru
Japan has no plans to extradite Alberto Fujimori, the former president of Peru, to his home country to face charges, Tokyo has said...
Peruvian Justice Minister Fausto Alvarado said that Interpol had communicated Lima's request for Mr Fujimori on Saturday.
He said it should be enforceable anywhere in the world because the charges of homicide, injuries and kidnapping it featured amounted to crimes against humanity.
Germany, Costa Rica, Italy, Spain and other countries recently said they would detain Mr Fujimori if he attempted to enter their territories.
Peru said last week it would formally ask Japan for Mr Fujimori's extradition by June or July.

I've met Alberto's son. He's actually a nice guy. You would never know he was the offspring of a "20th century villain".

Of course, son isn't father. Although I'm sure father acts very civil when meeting people (which is not to imply anything about the son).

The question is now whether Japan Inc. will give up one of its perp peeps.

I mean, they don't even punish corporate offenders who cripple the national economy with their good old boy BS.

Why would they give up Fujimori-yatsu.

Meaningless gesture by Interpol, unless they go one step forward and issue and arrest warrant.
I will not abide ignorant intolerance just for the sake of getting along.

UPDATE

Rights groups press Japan to extradite Peru leader
Reuters AlertNet, UK - 07 Apr 2003 22:38:10 GMT
Human rights groups on Monday launched a worldwide campaign to pressure the Japanese government into extraditing former president Alberto Fujimori back to Peru to face charges of rights abuses and corruption.
The drive includes a new Web site in English, Spanish and Japanese, http://www.fujimoriextraditable.com.pe, and a letter and media campaign in Japan where he is still popular.
... Many in Japan hail him as a hero for his handling of a hostage crisis in 1996 at the Japanese ambassador's residence.
